Taiwanese Influencer and OnlyFans Star Iris Hsieh Found Dead in Malaysia; Police Reclassify Case as Murder

AROUND THE WEB

The death of Taiwanese influencer and former nurse Iris Hsieh Yu-Hsin, known affectionately to her fans as the “Nurse Goddess,” has taken a dark turn after Malaysian police reclassified her case as murder. Officials now say new forensic evidence contradicts early reports of a natural or accidental death, intensifying scrutiny around her collaboration with controversial Malaysian artist Namewee.

Before her fame, Hsieh worked as a registered nurse in Taiwan, where her mix of compassion and charisma helped her amass a following online. When she transitioned to full-time content creation in 2020, she quickly became one of Taiwan’s most recognizable digital figures.

Across Instagram, YouTube, and OnlyFans, Iris Hsieh cultivated a reputation for authenticity, balancing glamour with wellness advice and personal stories. Her fans—over 500,000 strong—celebrated her positivity, calling her a symbol of modern Taiwanese womanhood.

“She was bright, kind, and hardworking,” one fan wrote. “Her energy made people believe in themselves.”

Irid Hsieh traveled to Kuala Lumpur on October 20, 2025, reportedly to work on a music and video project with Namewee (real name Wee Meng Chee), a Malaysian rapper and filmmaker known for his provocative artistic style.

Two days later, on October 22, hotel staff discovered Hsieh’s body in the bathtub of her room around 1:40 p.m. According to early reports, Namewee was in the room when the tragedy occurred. He told authorities that Hsieh had gone to take a shower and failed to reemerge after more than half an hour. When he went to check on her, he found her unresponsive and allegedly attempted CPR before calling hotel staff and police.

Initially, officials treated the incident as a sudden death, possibly due to a heart attack or accidental drowning. However, Hsieh’s family quickly disputed that conclusion, citing her excellent health and lack of medical history.

Following a second round of forensic analysis, Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus confirmed that the case had been reclassified under Section 302 of Malaysia’s Penal Code, which covers murder.

“The new findings are inconsistent with natural causes,” Fadil told Malay Mail. “We have gathered strong evidence through CCTV footage, witness statements, and lab reports. Arrests are forthcoming.”

Police also revealed that Namewee was the last person seen with Hsieh before her death. He has since been detained under remand after testing positive for amphetamines, methamphetamine, ketamine, and THC, though he maintains his innocence and claims no involvement in Hsieh’s death.

In a statement posted on Instagram, Namewee expressed sorrow, writing:

“I am deeply saddened by the loss of a talented friend. I will cooperate fully with the authorities and hope that the truth will come out soon.”

In the wake of Hsieh’s death, several figures in the influencer community have spoken out, most notably Canadian content creator Vivian Hsieh, a close friend of Iris. On Instagram, Vivian expressed her disappointment and anger toward Namewee’s handling of the situation, writing in Chinese:

“I’m ashamed to have worked with you.”

She accused the rapper of being “not forthcoming” and criticized what she perceived as a lack of transparency following Iris’s death. Her remarks have since gone viral across Mandarin-language platforms, drawing thousands of supportive comments from fans demanding accountability.

According to reports from Sin Chew Daily, Namewee has denied any wrongdoing and claimed he is being blackmailed and misrepresented online. His legal team insists that he has been fully cooperative with authorities and that online speculation is “deeply unfair.”

The tension between the two public figures, one defending his reputation, the other calling for truth, has amplified public pressure on investigators to provide clear answers.

Police say they are still awaiting toxicology and post-mortem results that will confirm Hsieh’s cause of death. Investigators are also interviewing hotel employees and examining digital evidence, including text messages and call logs from both Hsieh and Namewee.

“We are committed to uncovering the truth,” Chief Fadil reiterated. “All possibilities remain open.”

As the investigation continues, the case has drawn attention across Taiwan, Malaysia, and the wider influencer community in Asia.

In Taiwan, Hsieh’s death has left a void in the hearts of her followers. Tributes have poured in online, with many recalling her optimism and sincerity. Fans have organized candlelight vigils in Taipei and Taichung, leaving flowers and notes outside hospitals where she once worked.

Digital culture experts say the tragedy highlights the vulnerability of influencers working abroad without formal management or safety protocols. “Social media stardom often hides how isolated creators can be,” said Chen Yi-Ting, a professor of media studies at National Chengchi University. “When tragedy strikes, it exposes the lack of protection behind the glamour.”

For now, Iris Hsieh’s family continues to demand transparency and justice, urging Malaysian authorities to release findings as soon as possible.

“She had so much life ahead of her,” her father said in a statement. “We just want the truth.”
