Menopause. The word translates into “your sex life is over.” Everybody knows that, right? Well, some 40+ aged people’s genitals do not appear to have read the memo. In fact, the genitals and the people who wear them insist that they are having the time of their sexual lives. Why? How? And who the hell are these people and their post-menopausal sex crazed genitals?

It’s no lie that menopause changes a woman’s life. This often means that if she has a life partner, they aren’t going to get laid much anymore. Not by their menopausal partner, anyway. Other women find that with fears of unplanned pregnancy behind them, they feel more mentally alert, more emotionally in tune with their bodies, and more physically uninhibited. If in a loving relationship with good communication, it can be the perfect time to share fantasies, introduce new positions, and experiment with toys and non-intercourse options.

The downside for women, especially those who are still dating or having sex with multiple partners after menopause, is a greater risk of contracting an STI due to thinning skin tissue and microtears. Use of condoms, lube, and regular quarterly or half-year STI testing is advised. As they age, men are likely to encounter erectile dysfunction more often, as well. Positive lifestyle changes and medication adjustments can help. On the plus side, men tend to last longer due to ejaculation-inhibiting hormones, and women can find themselves having more and better orgasms than ever. Sex may happen less often for people 40 and older, but when it happens, it’s often amazing and more varied.

According to a recent AARP survey of 2,500 members, called “Ageless Desire: Relationships and Sex in Middle Age and Beyond,” sexy thoughts, dreams, and fantasies continue for 83 percent of menopausal and post-menopause participants. Men tend to fantasize about threesomes and orgies, women tend to fantasize about sex with other women and in exotic locations. Both sexes fantasize about sex with a stranger. Sadly, two-thirds of those queried have not shared their fantasies.

For her and her “workout partner,” spending so much time together during quarantine was a win. But it isn’t a neat and tidy win. “Sex isn’t supposed to be pretty,” Kate told Bustle. “I think that when you get older, you kind of have more fun with that.”

On the March 28, 2025 episode of the Jennifer Hudson Show, she announced that “I’m having a lot of sex.” Further, “When you’re growing up in your 20s and your 30s, you’re always worried about what you did or what you’re going to do. You’re always worried about the past, or you’re always worried about the future. But once you’re 50, you don’t have time for that nonsense. You’re just right in the moment.”
