Hot Ones Versus once again takes us beyond the singularity that is host Sean Evans’ Hot Ones. With Hot Ones Versus, we get not one but two (and sometimes three) celebrities who play a twisted version of Truth or Dare where a wrong answer earns you a spicy chicken wing. There are two drop-dead gorgeous WWE superstars. A trending director and two actors who appear in her movie debut. Two on-screen storm chasers. A duo of sizzling divas of music. Two best friends willing to watch each other suffer bring this compilation to its current Golden Chicken Wing trophy end.
Bianca Belair vs. Jade Cargill
If you’ve been waiting for an excuse to watch World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), this hot wing challenge between Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill might be it. Attired in pink crop tops and pants, the two Black beauties are stunning. The Women’s Tag Team Champions get to deepen their friendship with topics like what Jade’s most annoying tag team partner habit is, what her favorite cheat meal is, whether either has ever peed in the ring, and who is on Bianca’s “freebie list.” Her husband Montez Ford asks the question and Bianca’s reply is as romantic and his “You look as tasty as those wings,” is sexy. The two women admit repeatedly that they “don’t do hot food,” determining the winner of the Golden Chicken Wing trophy by shooting hoops using an arcade basketball game.
Channing Tatum vs Zoe Kravitz vs Naomi Ackie
Naomi Ackie can’t help but sound posh with her English accent and poise. The Brits aren’t famous for spicy foods, which could explain why she’s worried and wants to know what absorbing beverages are available. “It’s going to be hot,” she foretells. Channing Tatum and fiancé Zoe Kravitz appear to have the perfect relationship because they keep eating wings after answering questions about work and relationship strife. The ladies get to rate some of Channing’s most unique fashion looks and guess the name of his invisible childhood friend. Everyone guesses what a gallon of milk costs. The three play a game of 10 Questions, and Naomi suffers more than her friends, although Channing does turn red as the fun ends. “I got confident, and it fucked me,” he observes. “Shite. That last one fucked me.”
Daisy Edgar-Jones vs. Glen Powell
Daisy Edgar-Jones wishes she could be SpongeBob SquarePants. Glen Powell challenges her to impersonate him and while it didn’t sound like SpongeBob to me, he accepts it as acceptable. Thus, she avoids the Death Wing. She then dares Glen to show his college frat’s secret handshake. He declines and soon is describing with almost TMI how his body likes the spicy sauce. When British Daisy gets half of the Texas slang that she’s supposed to translate wrong, she utters what becomes her catchphrase for the segment. “I was told that it was all mental.” Then she coughs and says, “I can’t even have pepper and salt.” Multiple Friendship Tests survived, Daisy cries from the building heat on her tongue and throat. “I heard it’s all mental.” Tongue twisters are uttered in honor of their new movie, and Glen demonstrates his skill as a golfer. Then the Golden Chicken Wing trophy goes to its worthy winner.
Kali Uchis vs. JT
Fine Colombian American neo soul singer Kali Uchis and former Miami-based City Girls member JT are friends who also collaborate. During this Challenge, there’s not much collaboration but there’s plenty of laughter and good-natured competition. After introducing themselves and the rules of the game, a camo-wearing JT wants Kali, who appears to be in a pair of brown leather pants that are a size too small, to rate some of her past fashion looks. She manages but says they are hard to look at. Neither woman will diss their musical peers, so it’s wings for them both. JT doesn’t eat spicy foods, but says she’ll make this sacrifice “to lift women up.” They pepper each other with high-speed questions and talk about parenting disagreements before JT fails to have anything embarrassing to confess about her super social media-savvy boyfriend, Lil Uzi Vert. Her “classy bite” still makes her grab some milk, drink it, and proclaim “The milk makes it worse! Who the fuck came up with that idea?” The Final Dab pits the two songstresses against one another in a compliment battle. Crack a smile and eat a wing. Rock-Paper-Scissors ultimately reveals the winner.
Maddie Ziegler vs. Maisy Stella
Real friends and coming-of-age movie co-stars Maddie Ziegler and Maisy Stella put their BFF status to the test by diving deep into each other’s personal lives and doing their best to avoid eating a hot wing. Their interactions are adorable, and their garments span a range of femininity since brunette Maddie shows cleavage in her minidress and blonde Maisy looks fresh and active in her sportsball T-shirt. Friendship Tests dredge up childhood sleepover fears and requires each to guess what song best represents their friendship. Maisy is terrified by the thought of eating any of the spicy wings, blanks out for a moment, and proclaims, “I am not equipped for this.” Both actresses opt out of answering all potentially family/friend/business connection-harming questions so, equipped or not, they nibble on torturous chicken wings. Fellow co-star Kerrice Brooks then sweeps into the room to play Two Truths and a Lie. It’s a doozy. They all eat a wing to show solidarity, and the white girls confess that they don’t feel good now.
