Ray J Says “Kim Kardashian, Superstar” Changed the World

AROUND THE WEB

Without Their “Leaked” Sex Tape, Porn Would Never Be as Popular.

The way Ray J sees it, his 2007 Vivid Entertainment released sex tape with long-time-ago now ex-girlfriend Kim Kardashian changed the way the entire world developed. Online chatter on the Digital Spy forums about the 2003 tape is less than flattering, but Ray J fears its influence was so great that it not only changed the world it altered the future of porn.

We live in the future of porn. Ray J, the little brother of pop star and actress Brandy, explained to Club Shay Shay podcast host and former NFL player Shannon Sharpe that there probably would be no OnlyFans “and other things like that” without his amateur directorial debut.

While the impulse to disagree with the reality show star comes easily, there may be some truth to the statement. “We would all be different,” he told Sharpe. “We’d have on different clothes.” Before release of the tape, Kardashian had been known as “Paris Hilton’s friend” and the “daughter of the lawyer who represented O.J. Simpson against murder charges.” Kim Kardashian, Superstar launched her into the public eye big time.

Without the tape, shot while on vacation at Cabo San Lucas during the first year of the then-couple’s three-year relationship, it’s possible that the Kardashian family would never have become reality stars. Kardashian never removed her bra during sex, but just the fact Vivid bought the rights to the tape from a “third party” for $1 million was enough to get it talked about.

Prior to its release, she sued the company for invasion of privacy and for profits from sales and ownership of the tape. Both she and Ray J eventually received profits from their hardcore content.

A world without the freshly introduced Keeping Up with the Kardashians and its influence on fashion, culture, online social influence, television programming, and sexuality would be different from the one we live in.

For three hours, Ray J shared his views on he and his sister’s simple beginnings in Mississippi and their move to Hollywood, Diddy, Kendrick and Drake’s dispute, and how Kim Kardashian, Superstar changed reality. “How different would this industry be,” asked VH1’s Love & Hip Hop featured player. “Everything would be different. All the opportunities like that. Probably more people would be going to college. Get an education to be successful.”

On Wednesday, June 5, the same day his Club Shay Shay interview aired, another podcast uploaded its two-hour exclusive discussion with the R&B star. Ray J promoted his new single, “Throwing Stacks,” and, when he didn’t, he dished about his friendships. He told Hollywood Unlock’s “The Jason Lee Show” and its audience tales of times with former President Donald Trump, the night he literally slept with Amber Rose, and the recent, emotionally painful divorce from his “first and only love,” Princess Love.

Ray J also suggested, yet again, that it was Kardashian’s mother, Kris Jenner, who was integral to the release of the tape. Jenner has repeatedly denied this claim and even successfully passed a polygraph test on the Late Late Show.

In the past, Ray J has stated that there were another two sex tapes available. Nonetheless, during an April 2022 episode of The Kardashians, his co-star expressed shock when she heard that there might be something making its way around the internet. Lucky for her, ex-husband Kanye West was able to acquire all the remaining footage and bring it to her in the Big Apple. Kardashian gushed about how protective of their children both parents are.

Talkative co-star and director Ray J had a response to the gushing, insisting that West had nothing to hand over to their mutual ex. “All of this is a lie,” he commented on Instagram. “Can’t let them do this anymore – so untrue.”

Ironically, none of the content that West allegedly provided his ex-wife contained any sexual footage.

Despite the fact he helped launch Kardashian’s career, has made money from the tape, and can’t stop talking about it, Ray J insisted to Sharpe that he isn’t proud of what he can be seen doing 21 years ago. “I have kids now,” he explained. “Everything I do now when we have kids is just totally different. The whole thing is wacky. With my kids, it’s just not okay.”

“Are we part of the cure,” Ray J asked. “Are we part of the disease? I don’t fucking know. All I know is I’m just trying to make it right.” The man who played Cedric Williams in the 1996 hit, Mars Attacks! did not have any particulars about how he is trying to accomplish that.
