Sexy Mensan Continues to Prove She is Blessed with Beauty and Brains.
AVN Award winner Asia Carrera retired from porn in 2003 when she married nutritionist Don Lemmon. Now, the 50-year-old widow and mother of two is preparing for what may be one of her most challenging roles yet, graduating from St. Mary’s University in Texas Law School.
“Just walked out of my last law school class, the last class I will ever take, probably,” Carrera posted to Facebook on April 23. “I rolled from my Bachelor’s (Psychology) right into my Master’s (Education) and straight into Law School (Juris Doctor). Now I just have final exams left… and then 10 weeks of bar prep for the dreaded Bar Exam.”
Carrera, who entered the adult industry in 1993, has long been a trendsetter. In 1995 she became the first-ever Asian performer to win an AVN Female Performer of the Year award. As a Vivid Girl in 2002, she and Julie Ashton, Jenna Jameson, Janine Lindmuler, Britney Andrews, Chasey Lain, and others appeared in the March issue of Playboy Magazine. With an IQ of 156, she’s deemed a Mensa celebrity even though the high IQ social club won’t link to her website.
During her time as an adult performer, she worked with some of the most respected studios in the industry and alongside some of its biggest performers. The Dinner Party, Flashpoint and Flashpoint X, Babewatch 1, Dream Quest, Satyr, Conquest, Loaded, Bite the Big Apple, and A Witch’s Tail are only a few of the high-quality productions she headlined or co-starred in. Her studio resume reads like a “Best Of” from her era with company names including Adam and Eve, Cal Vista, Digital Playground, Wicked Pictures, and Sin City.
Those accomplishments are in the past, though, and while the future looks bright, Carrera is still apprehensive, as she shared on Facebook on April 23. “I feel sad, lost, and a little empty inside. Also, scared about what’s to come. A LOT scared about the future and the unknowns right now,” she confessed. “It’s funny that I’m not concerned about my final exams over the next 2 weeks. I’m so scared of the Bar Exam that I don’t have any room to be scared of finals.”
For those wondering what the Bar Exam consists of, she reported that half of it “is spent writing six essays and a legal memo/argument,” while the second day and final half of the exam “is spent answering 200 multiple choice questions on esoteric details from all areas of law.” Making things even more stressful for Carrera and her fellow graduate hopefuls is that the six essays due on day one must be written within three hours total and their topics are not known in advance.
Prior to her hyper-focused study of the next couple of weeks, she was able to take enough time to spend several Saturdays training for and then helping low-income families via Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA). Now her thoughts turn to the many intricacies of the law that might be on her upcoming tests and how to present herself once she has graduated. How much makeup does the average female professional wear? How should she prepare her hair? How much time should she budget for pre-work preparation?
Test and appearance anxieties aside, Carrera has reached a point in her life where she feels optimistic about the future. On January 24, in a reflective post to Facebook about the struggles she and her children have overcome, she observed, “But the best part is… looking around and realizing I’ve found happiness for myself again! Getting sober and going back to school saved my life. Putting in the work for my Bachelor’s, my Master’s, and Law School have opened a while lot of doors for my future! I’m so excited for all the different things I can do now! How lucky I am to have a while new chapter beginning in my life at the age of 50!?!”
