Gooning, or the practice of binge-watching ludicrous quantities of pornography has taken the world by storm. The term “Gooning” has dramatically spiked on Google since 2023, and gooning has become a topic in porn, Twitch streams and even mainstream publications.
I spoke to several gooners and pornstars to get a better idea of what gooning is all about, and how to goon better.
How Long Should You Goon?
Gooning habits vary widely from person to person. Some folks spend as little as an hour a day, while others plan marathon sessions upwards of twelve hours. The simple answer is, as long as you like, so long as those hours don’t interfere with balancing the rest of your life!
Most of the gooners I spoke to averaged four hours per day, typically in one viewing, but that’s not always the case. According to Megan (@meghorror91), “(I) only goon/masturbate for one to two hours a day.”
On the higher end, I tend to watch six to eight hours of porn a day, typically catching new scenes for work and writing purposes, but I often tack on another hour or two of favorites at the end of my day too.
“I’m definitely more of an extreme case. My highest monthly gooning can exceed 150 hours. Every day, I goon for an hour in the morning, an hour during work time via regular breaks to the bathroom, and two to three hours in the evening.
During an average porn weekend, I’ll usually stuff between ten and fifteen hours of smut worship over the weekend. Of course, sometimes it can be less depending on if my non-porn plans get in the way, but I aim to get a minimum of 125 hours of gooning in per month.”

The Secret to Marathon Porning: Planning
Stephen Covey famously noted one of the Seven Habits of Highly Effective People is to put first things first. If marathon porning is important to you, then you’ve got to make time for it. That’s especially true for longer sessions. For example, I typically plan one to two days of the week as a “porn catchup.” I’ll set an alarm and schedule my day around viewing hours from 7:00AM to 5:00PM, with breakfast and lunch preplanned so as not to interrupt any screen time.
Planning is also important when sharing a living space, as Pink Velvet (@pinkvelvel38) noted, “I do have to plan my gooning in advance. And living with a partner… I have to make sure I keep it within my time frame.”
Moreover, it helps to plan which scenes you intend to watch for those long days. It cuts down aimless browsing and it gives you something to look forward to next.
But not everybody plans. According to Dankp0rn (@dankp0rn), “I find that the spontaneous ones with little to no planning are usually better.” Even Duffy agrees, “Most of the time, yes. I have a very disciplined approach to planned gooning… Sometimes, though, things can be spontaneous.”
How To Not Cum
Continuous masturbation and edging are a big part of most gooner’s routines. But how do you avoid blowing your load when confronted with hours of the hottest sex imaginable? It sure can be a challenge, especially if you’re new to the game.
Mindset is everything. Dankp0rn says “Immerse yourself in porn and don't think of cumming or even reaching the edge as your goal or the reason why you do it.” That’s a great idea. Most people tend to watch porn as masturbation fuel, but if the goal is to get off, then you’re going to get off quickly. A subtle shift in mindset helps to stay engaged and entertained for hours.
Orgasmic urges will arise, but there are ways to hold back. VN (@vanninja93) notes “When you start to feel the sensation of cumming, stop the touch for seconds then repeat.” Or you can borrow a lesson from pro pornstar Keiran Lee who performs mental arithmetic during the more intense moments of his scenes. PinkVelvet suggests the use of tension and muscle contraction to stave off that next O.
As the hours build, the experience can be intense. You can expect to breathe heavily, tense all manner of muscles, and break a sweat. Pornstar Elizabeth Skylar reminds gooners to “stay hydrated because, after all, it is kind of a glorified workout.”
The Best Thing About Gooning
Edging may be mighty fun, and porn is undoubtedly beautiful, but the best thing about gooning is the community of fellow porn fans and experts. I learned this lesson long before the term gooning existed when I started my first adult blog back in 2008. Up until then, I thought that I was the only person who took porn quite so seriously. It wasn’t long before an active community sprung up in the comments section, full of discussion and insight about our favorite art form. It was validating and inspiring.
Today, gooners are active across all forms of social media, with a heavy presence on X, Discord servers, and in old-school forums like AdultDVDTalk.com. On gooner culture, Duffy acknowledges that “As with anything, you’ll find gooners who take things way too far and allow it to have a negative impact on their life. But for the most part, it’s all about porn positivity and balancing your love of the culture with a healthy lifestyle.”
Sex is supposed to be fun, and so is gooning. Find some great porn, have a blast, and always make sure to keep a healthy porn-to-life balance.
