This week's trending subreddit, r/nsfwhardcore has a community of 2.3 million members. When determining what is hardcore, the moderators note that what is "hardcore" isn't black and white, but when viewing it on a spectrum "it's the opposite of vanilla."

They define vanilla as "commonplace, slow-paced, boring" or as something "we've seen before."
