The Don Juan XClusive: “The Virtues of XXX”

This week's entry into my XXX journal may be the most important, and my most intimate. I know who the fuck wants to get intimate with a porn writer? A porn star I can see, but a writer? Who the fuck cares? Well, to be a massive cliché, it should be you, and yes, this writer has a story to tell about some things you may not know about porn….

For the longest time, this handsome devil has dreamt about making porn. It has fascinated me for as long as I can remember. I have also been addicted to other forms of film, and fantasy. Porn, it always seemed like the fantasy that I had the most chance of making reality. It is sex, it is guys and gals doing something they enjoy, “why the fuck couldn’t this happen?” Those are words that have rung in my head for years, and years to come. 

The story of how I found my way into this business is a rather funny one. A legendary porn star just happened to come into the offices of a publishing house I was working for. I have always been very upfront with women, as I have enjoyed porn for a very long time, and I am not ashamed to admit from a very young age. Yes, my parents should have done a better job raising me, but with the state of this country being as divided and hate-filled as it is. I thought my parents did OK, as I was the young buck sneaking out of bed late at night to watch the Spice channel on Pay-Per-View. Man, my adolescence was filled with a lot of bullshit sick days. Every time it occurred, there I was ordering a block of porn, followed by a rated R film. I remember the films that changed my life forever, they were Babes Illustrated 7, and Pulp Fiction. I think those films changed everyone’s life. It was during this moment that I first saw Miles Long, who little did I know, would go on to become one of my best friends in the industry, and my partner producing the kind of creations I had dreamed about creating. All sparked that very day. 

Porn is made in a rather unique way. I won’t go as far as to say it is cold, but it is sex that must be a mechanical way if you wish to achieve some levels of fantasy. Porn stars are for the most part the most loving human beings on earth, people who will go out of their way to help one another, and even complete strangers. This is something that goes far beyond the reaches of sex. Now, what also exists is a market of make-shift creators, who believe that money, and a lust to see naked human beings is all that it takes to make a great porn film. Yes, I will say that some idiots in the industry have made some amazing films, scenes, productions. But, most of that is due to the performer, as these people are some of the most talented human beings on planet earth. Miles, for instance, is more handy than a five-star mechanic, and has the marketing skills of someone who runs publishing houses in New York. I wish I could tell you more of his background. Let’s just say the man is a hero to more than just the people in this industry. 

I met Miles Long through two great loves of my life. In both instances, this man went out of his way to help these ladies I love in the industry. Not a common thing in any industry, let alone porn. The even bigger teller of this man’s true spirit was he did these great things for these amazing people, all without even knowing that I was watching, or that the ladies were telling. It was through one of these ladies, the stunning Lynn Vega that I got Miles a number years ago, and we did what porn people do, and just called the other out of the blue to talk about life, our past, our present and how we both struggled with certain things and people in our lives. As I said, we porn people, we will go out of our way for one another, pick each other up, even if we have only known each other for five days. It was here that our friendship began, and I saw that what Miles was looking to create, it was far more than just naked women and sex. It was the pursuit of excellence, and yes, to be cheesy as fuck, a want to show the art, and beauty of this world we call home. I think that is where our producing partnership began. With a friendship that was all about helping people to be all that they could be in this industry.

This is how I met a lot of great people in the industry. People I had always seen on my television screen. The great Ryan Conner, and the one and only Abigail Mac. You name the big star, Miles has shot them, and shot them well. Oh, how I would later discover how important that was. As our friendship began, which started as I climbed up the ranks as an industry writer and designer. I began to see that maybe one day, I could do the impossible, and one day make a scene, film, or script that would make others say ohh, and ahh, just like I did all those years ago. OK, who the fuck am I kidding. I still say that when I see some of the work that is created in this industry today. I began to try to learn the ropes of working with talent, building relationships with their agents and publicists. This did not always take me down the most desirable, or often traveled roads, and there was a reason people avoided such paths. As I learned the hard way. 

I won’t throw any person under the bus, or call out people who do shitty work. My career in publishing and entertainment has taught me many things, but the most often seen lesson? That what goes around, comes around. And, that people’s shitty work catches up to their phony reputations. Plus, whatever does not kill us, makes us stronger, and if I can tap into some philosophy for a brief second, the only way we learn in time, as human beings, is to walk the opposite side of the tracks by learning how NOT to do things. I will say this, I once saw a phony-bologna businessman put in the hospital by someone who is now awaiting their day in court in LA county, but that is another story, for another day. A con-man hospitalized by a criminal. That is what this business can be, if you do not choose to work in this industry for the right reasons. It was here that I began shooting models, finding out that not everyone did quality work. I paid quality prices, hired performers who are now award-winning starlets. But that does not mean anything if you don’t have desire, passion, or love behind what you do. Porn made without love. A concept that I still struggle to understand to this day. 

I guess you can say that it is fate that brought Aria Khaide into this shoot. Her wonderful publicist was the person that introduced us a few years ago. He came to me and said, “this is a performer worth promoting.” Whenever dear Bosco would say such things, I knew that he was bringing me someone professional, someone who was in this industry for all the right reasons. Which, from a producing standpoint, means less stress on set, pre- and post-shoot. As a writer, these are the people you live to write about. Aria and Miles themselves had become friends over the start of her young career. So, when Miles and I talked about joining forces, making art and entertainment that featured people who care and love, it was a no-brainer to bring this starlet into the line-up. 

My days with Aria planning this shoot were a glimpse into the world of porn that I had always dreamt of. Some people want to hold a trophy, make millions of dollars, or become immortal through their work. I must admit, that last example of desire is something very appealing to me, but that is not what is at the core of The Solo Series Interview. When the wonderful people at XBIZ granted me my own channel on XBIZ TV, I knew that I had to make this project about showing the true might of the people in XXX entertainment. Tell the stories of people like Miles helping models to learn ropes. Giving people a shot to succeed in a world that gives you no instruction manual, and allowing people whose safety is the four walls they call home, a look at the beautiful world around them with safety. It is why I am blessed to call him partner, but even more so friend. The same goes for Aria Khaide. The woman who shows up to set fifteen minutes early, who gets out and runs every day, just as if she were training for a meet in college. That is what this project is. People believe that having sex, showing lust and passion is wrong. Look at the world around you, what is harsher to the eye, what goes on in Miles’ studio in Vegas, or what is happening on a make-shift battleground in Ukraine. What person poses the biggest threat to society, a woman who is a wife, a daughter, a professional. One who enjoys being a slut, loves everything that comes with the title and will defend it with diligence, dignity and thought. Or is the bigger threat a woman who tries to divide a country with politics, and I will not point fingers at any of them, as that would bring down a hammer of censorship unjustly unto an industry that is already so misunderstood. No, this project, these people, we are all here to show that this industry has people within it that help to get the other sober and clean. Who call one another when their true family has lost contact. This industry is judged harshly by its mistakes, and there have been many of them. I hope that with The Solo Series, I can help shed a spotlight on the good things in XXX, and the people who make it so. 

At the end of the day, let’s just say that the young boy inside me, he never thought he would ascend to the level that he has, become partners with a man who he only knew existed on the television screen, and would go on to shoot Penthouse Pet of the Year performers with him. Nor did I ever think that I would be able to sit down with the girl of my dreams, hell, she is the girl of everyone’s dreams and talk about what it is that makes sexuality good, then show off the spoils of her beauty and erotic nature. The truth of it all is that I call these amazing people my friends, and that is the true virtue within porn that is never given the light of day, friendship. It exists on the field of battle. It is shared between teammates on a baseball diamond. Furthermore, it is almost never shared in many other places, especially in the place you call work. I humbly say that this has been the best part of creating porn, and erotica. Getting to know the most beautiful people in the world, only to find out that what you see on the surface, is not the most beautiful thing that they possess, and offer. That is the stunning virtue of porn, and The Solo Series created by Miles and Don Juan.
