The XCritic Interview: Vanessa Vega Pt. 2

Our first interview of 2021 showcases a new starlet who has earned herself an XBIZ Best New Starlet nomination in her first “go-round” in this business. In part one of our interview with inked beauty Vanessa Vega, we met a dancer turned film actress who lives her life the way that she sees fit. A life with freedom that I think very few human beings know in today’s world of divided citizenry. Vanessa Vega is a thinker, a lover, a performer, and above all else, a woman who speaks the truth. A new starlet who has a bold reputation for being very forward with who she is and the respect that she demands. That is something I have not seen since the days of industry icons like Jewel De’Nyle and dare I say, Lisa Ann. Now meet Vanessa Vega. Who you are getting to know, is a performer unlike any other porn star you have met before. Her body of art, her bad girl character, and her artistic passion are all driven by one thing; her opinion, and it is what she uses to push her brand, and her performances, into every porn household in today’s digital age. The seven years this woman danced across the country in numerous gentleman's clubs across the continent, was a lifestyle choice that was fueled by another kind of passion. Doing what I think few people could handle due to the demand, the sacrifice, and most of all, the ridicule a woman receives in that aspect of the legitimate adult entertainment industry we all know and love. I learned very quickly that this woman loves what she does, and she ensures that what she is doing is always something that she wishes to do. Vanessa Vega is a product of this bold new world. A porn star who looks to do things no one else has and that is where we begin this second look at this future superstar of XXX. 

Vanessa Vega: Have you been reading my diary? 

……well, when one of the most beautiful women in the world tells you such things, stammering is very easy. I know I sure did. Make sure to read part one of this interview. That way you can meet this beautiful brunette and discover a porn star that is just as down to earth, righteous and adventurous as it gets. We were just talking about the time it takes for a starlet to get recognized, when things start to pay off. I kid you not, rapping to this stunner is like talking to my long-lost twin sister. She does things the right way. She thinks and plans out her work with immense passion and heavy emotion. This woman cares, and she begins to tell me about what she feels this first year has taught her and, what it means to have the most passionate sex that you have ever had in your life. Conversation powerful enough so that you may be brought to tears. I was. Want to impress your girl? Well ladies and gentlemen, the trick to it, make them cry and I am not talking tears of sorrow, I am talking sexual release so powerful, you cry tears of joy. Don Juan: Well, one of my best friends in the world, the lovely Mindi Mink, who is now retired. When we had first met and she shot for the first time with Julia Ann, let me tell you, those two women formed something powerful together. It was something that came from shooting a scene and having sex that was so deep, all she could do was burst out into tears. I can not remember for the life of me who shot the scene but my goodness, talk about heartwarming and life-changing. I think maybe it was Mike Quasar.

Vanessa Vega: See, that is exactly it. I think that fans are looking for that too, and they just don’t know it. It is all about the beauty, it is all about being sexy. 

Don Juan: You are a true advocate of what is so wonderful about “gonzo.” The type of scene that is sex, but it is the allure and like you said, the sexiness. Julia Ann and Mindi, they shot a scene like you talked about, and it was something that touched their soul. It is just the most amazing thing. 

Vanessa Vega: Yes, yes, yes! That is something that I feel with being “poly.” Even just going to sex parties, or just meeting new people. I found that you see this whole other side of love. You see this whole other side to honesty. It is a very cool thing to see people evolve like that right in front of you. 

Don Juan: The evolution is amazing. To become a person who learns about the transfer of power. The emotions that come with things like BDSM, “fetish” and so much more. That is “outside” the box, it is something evolutionary indeed. One of the loves of my life did such things and I preach about it till I am red in the face at times but that is because it made me a new person. It really did. 

Vanessa Vega: Yeah, totally! Everyday man, there are so many things out there to discover that just make you say, “what!?!” Even though I have learned so much in the last few years, I still feel like I don’t know anything yet. 

Don Juan:That is fucking awesome dude. As a writer, that is what I am searching for. To find that ideal narrative to what sexuality is and what sexuality can become with the different mindsets and thoughts within people. 

Vanessa Vega: Yes, it is deep man! 

Don Juan: I see that you have already been nominated for Best New Starlet with Nightmoves, I am telling you, there is going to be even more when AVN and XBIZ get their nominations going. With reaching this kind of pinnacle, I would love to know what your goals were for this year in the business. My God woman, I have seen you accomplish so much. 

Vanessa Vega: Well, when I began in the business, I was represented by an agency but now, I book on my own. This makes me think of something that I asked my agency in the beginning when I was starting. I asked them; “I am not really in this business to be popular. I am in the business to make money but, do I have to be popular in order to make good amounts of money?” Their answer was basically yes. Then I began to work, and I began to make the money that I was expecting, but then something happened on the side that I was not expecting. I do not know if I am being clear and making sense? 

Don Juan: Oh, hell yes you are. Honestly, there is no wrong answer to this. What I will tell you Vanessa, my girl, she is with an agent and some of the things I try to teach her from a business standpoint is to make sure that you utilize working for a production company for your brand. Because it is all about what you do with what you have. Geese, I am over here interrupting your great answer, but I know that there are good people and bad people in this business, just like any other. This is something that is about performance. When I see you as a new starlet, I see a woman who has a grasp of a lot of things and that is something I wish all new starlets had. 

Vanessa Vega: Aww, I appreciate you saying that. OK, so I have a thought. I sit here, and I think about this part of myself. I am such an introvert. I am an anxious person by nature, so when it comes to performing, what I think I do is just push everything out of my mind and the only way I can describe what I feel, it is almost a fear to do well. For me, in the last two months, especially after leaving my agency, I have been reading book, after book, after book, about marketing. I have been learning about this, that and the other. I have been investing time in my brand. Which has led me to working on everything from big things, all the way down to my phone. I am trying to make everything simplified, and as easy as possible to work with and operate. I then realized, right at that moment, that I have never been as motivated as I am right now. That is because I finally feel like I am in a community where I do not have to fake anything with people. They all accept me for who I am. I am doing something that I actually like to do, and it is something that does not affect my personal life in negative ways. I really like the PA aspect. I know that may sound weird, but I think in the future, I would really like to do that for a big production company. Or, get into learning the craft of editing, or something like that. I am a person who loves doing paperwork. I am a person who loves scheduling things. I am just so into making lists and stuff like that. I love that shit!

It is always hard to convey what tone a model is using when writing an interview. Vanessa Vega, I will tell you that this woman is speaking with conviction, speed and brilliance. This is not a porn star looking to tell the fans, the production companies what they want to hear in an interview. This is an intelligent, driven woman telling the world how much this business has changed her in good ways, and believe it or not ladies and gentlemen, she is not alone. Vanessa Vega is a woman, who has earned her stripes from other powerful women in the industry. Women who do exactly what she just spoke of. In a moment when “paperwork” is being put under a microscope in this industry due to Porn Hub, it is women like Vanessa Vega, and the many others, that speak great things about her. These are all women who have all been leading the charge of a prepared industry for whatever the civilian world of "mob rule" and obtuse thought and judgement of their fellow human beings, can ever attempt to throw at them, or take away. It is these ladies who are one step ahead of the game, one step ahead of the world in many ways. These is a strength to the women of this industry and Vanessa Vega speaks and leads her brand with it.

Don Juan: I fucking love you woman! Wow! 

Vanessa Vega: Well, I am already twenty-seven, so I know that I am not going to be performing forever and that the window that I have, I need it to be something more than it is for other people in the business doing the same thing.

Don Juan: Get the fuck out of here, you are twenty-seven? No fucking way! You look like you are twenty-three at most. So this fucking means that when you are fifty, you are finally going to be looking your age. That is awesome. 

Vanessa Vega: Yeah, yeah….

Don Juan: No, no bullshit. You have a very youthful look. You had me freaking fooled, and I thought I was pretty damn good at telling a model's age with as many models as I have seen and met in the business? You have proven that I do not know shit madam. 

Vanessa Vega: Oh, you are just too kind. 

Don Juan: No, I mean this. When I spoke to Chris Cock, he told me how full of energy you are and how much he enjoyed who you are as a person with all of your spirit. He did not tell me how old you were, and I just assumed, being that you are this performer with so much raw energy, that you were in your early twenties. There is so much that you have going for you. I will be honest with you. You and Lacy Lennon, out of all the new starlets, performers with three years or less under their belt, you two are who I have so much respect for. Darlin’ when I saw what you shot with Bam Visions and Evil Angel already, I was fucking floored! You are off the wall amazing in that production. In all of your Evil Angel starring roles.

Vanessa Vega: Aww, thank you. 

Don Juan: Well, I am a person who loves and respects so much more than what most people see, or get from the surface of porn. Myself being a history major, I love the art side of the business. I love how everything comes together. The fact that are wanting to learn that portion of the industry, that is music to my ears. I also think that woman is the most beautiful and precious thing on this planet in all her forms. Fat, skinny, old, young, black, white, Asian, tall, anything. I just think women are the wonders of earth and should be shown off this way. Their sexiness and their beauty has just always captivated me. Even when I was a kid.

Vanessa Vega: Agreed, woman is beautiful. 

Don Juan: For this next question, this is what I had written down. For the woman who is turning heads as fast as Katrina Jade did when she was a rookie in this business, I would love to know, what does the word sexuality mean to Vanessa Vega? 

Vanessa Vega: That is a good one, give me a second…...now, are you asking me my personal view of sexuality or what it means in general?

Don Juan: Oh, either or madam. However you would like to answer that question, there is no right or wrong answer. 

Vanessa Vega: I have to answer this with a few views I think. I feel like when a person is not in touch with their sexuality, I see crazy people picketing on the side of the road. See, I grew up in Catholic school, and I was around a lot of people to whom sexuality was something that you did not talk about. They made you feel like you were the weird person if you did. Just the way that those people live their lives, I always thought that it was strange, and I guess you could say that I never really understood that. As I got older, I then came to grips with the fact that I was bisexual and then had to learn about dating in front of my extremely religious family. Things then come full circle to that understanding of “I do not give a fuck anymore” kind of change within my own life and thought, I now realize what a big deal sexuality is. I realize that it is something that changes everything. Now, I think that the definition of what sexuality is, it is being ones own true fucking self! Because even when you are not in the act of cumming, sexuality is something that is in every moment in your life. I do not mean this in terms of hyper-sexuality. It is something more simple, like just being a woman. It is in the way that I walk, it is in the way that I talk. It is in the way that I look at somebody, and the way that they look at me. It is in the way that I interact with someone. Sexuality is in all of that. 

Don Juan: Oh, it is. I one-hundred percent agree. 

Vanessa Vega: I don’t know if I could simplify things even more, but I think sexuality is something as simple as emotional maturity. 

Don Juan: Damn woman, that is one of the greatest fucking answers I have EVER received. For me, this is the honest to God truth that I live by. There are two types of people in the world. There are people who look at love, and they say, “I can’t say that word to people without knowing them deep down.” I say to that person, “love, it has a million different definitions. It is friendship, it is passion. It is intimacy, it is lust. It is compassion to many degrees" and I think it is that fear that people have for love, which is a part of sex and sexuality, that hinders so many people. All because they can not even say the fucking word, let alone try and understand the many meanings and that is what leads to a life of unhappiness and filling unfulfilled in so many places in their world. Then, there is the person who is not afraid. The person who lives by what they feel and who they are without denial and an open mind to discover one's self. Strange how the second person is treated like the outcast, the freak or the heathen. Now, before you reply to that, I first must tell you that I grew up Catholic as well, and I grew up with a gay brother who was a Sunday school teacher. That is how gangsta my family is.

Vanessa Vega: Wow! Now my family is like, well, my sister, she is a lesbian, and she is now pregnant. My cousin is now dating a trans woman, and it is a cool thing to see that my parents are now overjoyed to see these things. I mean it is really like things come around full circle in so many moments in my life, with my own family also. 

Don Juan: Aww, yay! That is so fucking cool dude. I love hearing stories like that. When I grew up with my brother, it was the nineties, and homosexuality was so frowned upon. This was also my older brother we are talking about, so, I routinely had to be the younger brother who went to try and beat up the older brother's bullies because he got picked on from elementary school all the way to high school. I can imagine the things you have seen and what you have been through. I knew that my brother was gay from the first moments I ever spent time with him as a child. I once told a nun this when the Catholic Church got rid of him because he was gay, I told her, “you know if you think that you could really do something like choosing to be gay, do you honestly believe that my brother would choose to get his ass kicked every day of his life?” I told them over and over that if they really believed it was something that you could fucking pray away that we would have already tried that by now and been successful. I have seen many sides of humanities true character and it is not always good.

Vanessa Vega: Exactly! 

Don Juan: I think that is such a beautiful thing to hear. To know that there are families out there who accept and introduce what people really are, and I mean what and who they really are. That is amazing! I have had many people tell me, and we are talking clinical psychologists, fucking doctors, they say, "you are truly a female on the inside in so many ways" and that is something that is a good thing, it is not a bad thing. I think that is because we all have that in us. We have a little in column A and a little that goes in column B. The X and Y chromosome is in all of us.

Vanessa Vega: Absolutely! 

Don Juan: That is so cool to talk to a person who is on the same page. Hearing your thoughts on sexuality, I do not think that women’s sexuality is allowed to be expressed as much as it should be. There is so much that women are not allowed to say, do or be in this modern world still.

Vanessa Vega: Dude, just listening to that WAP song I was telling you about! That one with Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion, I feel almost like a low-key shame when I am listening to that song. I can be driving down the road, in my car and I have to check myself because I am listening to songs about dicks and chicks giving blow-jobs all day long or whatever, and I do not think twice about it. Now, I hear a woman’s empowerment song, and I get nervous wondering if that person next to me is going to be weird about it, and I am like fuck that!

One of the things that brought my attention to Vanessa Vega as a starlet, besides my beautiful girlfriend working on the same set as her, and beginning a friendship, is that she is a woman who is empowered. Who is the definition of speaking up for yourself as a woman? Knowing that it is OK to be a beautiful woman inside and out. That is something not many women have in themselves. This is a lady who does not take any shit, who has a brain, and just so happens to have an equally beautiful body. She was an exotic dancer for many years before she entered porn. A very competitive marketplace where you better damn well treat it like a business, or it can consume you like any money-making business does. This starlet is one of the true voices. One who speaks of the importance of not forgetting about porn stars, models, and entertainers when we talk about empowered women of the world and what makes them to be so. 

Don Juan: My friend, you made me think of my auntie and this is not meant to be political, but when Hillary Clinton ran for office, she told me that she voted for the other guy. The reason? Because she said that she did not believe a woman could run the country. I mean that is how brainwashed people are in this society, to believe that women can not be women, that women can not be beautiful whatsoever and be in a competitive work force that is demanding and that is fucking bullshit. So much so that a strong woman like my aunt would turn on her fellow women like that because of a damn stereotype that was handed down to her generation just like all the generations in my family before hers.

Vanessa Vega: Seriously! Or, that being emotional can not make you a good leader. It is just something that makes no sense. 

Don Juan: I come from a family of a lot of macho men. Many of whom called me gay, being that I was the male who loved to write poetry. Who loved simple things like going shopping, and anything that has to do with art and decor. All these years later, I am the one who now has macho family members coming to me, the same ones who called me gay, asking me, as if that were something bad, and say, “Hey bro, I am ashamed that I watch transsexual porn. Do you think that makes me gay?” 

Vanessa Vega: Oh my God!

Don Juan: I have to tell them that they are normal, that this does not mean you are gay, it means you are normal. I hate this modern-day narrative that people say masculinity is disappearing. It is not, we are all just starting to treat each others as human beings and that is something mankind has never done. It has always been the division of sexes not a unity of species.

Vanessa Vega: Yeah, agreed. 

Don Juan: You know, to close things out, I would love to hear about your experiences with Evil Angel, Bam Visions, Maestro, and Mick. It seems like that had to have been one hell of a fun set with you in the mix as well. 

Vanessa Vega: It was all such an interesting experience because it all happened so quickly. The booking happened really quickly. I showed up and on set everything got going really fast as well. 

Don Juan: You have a composure that is so different from any other new starlet that I have spoken to within the last year. That behind the scenes interview was awesome. You made it seem like a six-hour day on set and I mean that in a good way. It is a good quality scene. It is shot very well. You and Mick seemed to have amazing chemistry with everything. 

Vanessa Vega: Oh yes, I remember. The anal was so easy that day. Working with Mick and Maestro, they both made the set have this very casual feel. I can imagine that you know this already, being someone who has watched most of my scenes, but I am so bad at faking things. That is why I choose not to. Mick was just honestly making me cum and there just happened to be a camera there. So everything that you saw there was real. Suzanne told me that in most instances, Mick will go home right away, and he stayed for about forty-five minutes afterward, and we just talked about life, living, and things like that. It seemed like we were talking forever. Mick Blue is a very fascinating person. He has these beautiful eyes, oh!

Don Juan: He is my favorite of all male performers. He has such an amazing soul and that becomes evident on-screen with how he makes each sexual encounter have such passion. It is just awesome to talk to a person about things like being a gear head. I dig that with Mick. 

Vanessa Vega: That is what makes him such a special guy. It is just awesome to have a real ass conversation with someone. 

Don Juan: I think having that kind of flow on set is so important. My boo was on set with Gamma and long story short, she was working with someone who did not care and just wanted to go home as fast as they got there. The scene looked like shit and sometimes, all that keeps an adult film or scene from being good, is that there is no comfort, togetherness, or real connection between people. When you don’t have that, those days suck on set for everyone.

Vanessa Vega: Totally! I feel like that is important. Now, this may sound funny, and that perhaps I am a little full of myself, but I know that everybody feels that way, you know what I mean? They are expecting that when I show up as a performer, especially if they have not met me in person. So I try to be over the top nice and I think everyone should be. Then, seeing that moment of realization they have, like, “wow, she was not a complete fucking idiot.” It happens every single time that I have met someone on set it seems. 

Don Juan: I can imagine. It is nice to meet people who are in the business for the right reasons and this is what I mean by that comment. We are here to put a roof over our head first a foremost. That is life but also, and Vince McMahon said it best, “I would be doing this if it were a hobby, if it were not my job. No matter if I got paid for it. Or if it were my side gig, or my main source of income. No matter if at the end of the day I got four hours sleep or ten from the schedule, this is what I would be doing, because I love what I do for a living that much.” I think other artists and passionate souls can see that from a mile away in someone like you. I know I did. I see that in the way that you perform and the way that you speak to people. 

Vanessa Vega: I appreciate that. 

Don Juan: We are the ones who appreciate you doll. I can not wait to tell Todd Hunter that I finally got to meet you, say hello, and pick your brain for a good long while. He is like me, we enjoy great conversation and seeing that next layer of a performer, as we pull each layer away like an onion.

Vanessa Vega: We were talking for a little and he was following my work, then I do not know what happened. 

Don Juan: Oh my goodness, he is always such a busy guy. Todd is a man I respect so much in this business. I do not know how they manage to run things the way they do but he and the people around him at AVN are just fucking amazing! It is mind-blowing how they keep things rolling in today’s corporate world. A world where everyone is trying to do more than less. You want to hear something funny? When I began, when you would walk onto a porn set, there would be a minimum of fifteen to twenty-five people and that is the minimum. You would arrive on set and there would be catering, and we are talking five-star meals, not a photographer with just granola bars and water. It is crazy how times change and this change is larger than porn.

Vanessa Vega: Oh my God, what!

Don Juan: Who knows, perhaps that is where we are headed in the business. You never know. In closing Vanessa, are there any big projects that you can talk about with us coming up in the near future? 

Vanessa Vega: I do not want to give too much away but let me just say that I have an all-girl threesome coming out and that should be premiering within the next few weeks. This is the first time that I went all out and bought wardrobe, paid for hair and make-up. I even came up with a storyboard of how I would want things to go. It is very nerve-wracking doing this all for the first time, and yes, there is more pressure on me, but it is going to be good. I think the fans are really going to enjoy this as well, because the people involved, I know they really love having sex with women, and they were all very interested in what I wanted to do with this creation of mone. It is nice to make something where everyone is so enthusiastic. 

Don Juan: I wanted to also say to you before I let you go, it is something special to see a woman who is an independent performer, who is doing the things that you are. Once again madam, thank you for your time, you are one of the brightest of minds that I have ever met.

Vanessa Vega: Thank you, it was so nice getting to talk to you. It was like this low-key therapy session of getting to know someone. 

Don Juan: When this COVID shit ends, I can not wait for you to meet my girl and also, give you a great big hug at one of these fucking crazy conventions.

Little did I know how much this starlet would change my view of the world in the five months since we sat down for this interview. I found out that not only had Vanessa Vega met my girlfriend, she also gave her some valuable advice and helped in a way that you just do not see a new starlet have within their heart and being in year one of her career. Tell me how amazing that is, that this woman, who is the unsung hero of the best new starlet nominees, would be the person to touch my life and my loved one's heart in ways that truly show the wonder of the adult world.
