While Eddie Powell has been in the industry for a while, he has often been overlooked. In 2010 Lee Roy Myers stood squarely the spotlight with a number of very high profile porn parodies including The Big Lebowski XXX, Sex & the City Seinfeld 2 , and the Big Bang Theory as well as the launch of the Romance Collection.
At his side was Eddie, holding the camera and perfecting his craft. When Myers departed New Sensations, Eddie stepped in and took over the mantle as their showcase director, bringing his own sensabilities and craft. The result were two of the best adult movies released this year: Dear Abby and Lost And Found. Powell didn't just carry on the Romance Series, he brought it to a whole new level and with it gave a peek into the future of adult entertainment - good movies with good stories, good acting and great sex.
But Eddie didn't just rest on his success of the Romance Series, he elevated many of New Sensations/Digital Sin's lines. Bringing high quality shooting, great casting an excellent scenes. This all came together in films like The Interns 2, Geek Girls:The Gamers and Lollipop Girls.
Ultimately, Eddie showed in 2011 that great porn can be made even in a deep recession. He pushed his talent to give great performances and produced stunning films on extremely modest budgest. But most importantly Eddie is making movies for adult consumers to actually buy. You can't just slice and dice his films for the web and many of his great films, including the romance series, are ones that get watched, from beginning to end (without fast forwarding).
Eddie stood out in 2011 and advanced the craft of adult film making and for that we recognize him as the 2011 XCritic Adult Director of The Year.
