With her love for wine making, it's only appropriate that Savanna Samson is like a fine wine in that they both get better with age. In both of her professional endeavors, this beauty has shown her staying power quite well. Her final Vivid release Savanna Samson is the Masseuse has been receiving much praise from several of the most influential adult film reviewers in the business. Meanwhile, in the male-oriented wine making industry, Savanna is continuing to forge on in making her vineyard into a smashing success like she has done for her wines. Who knew that this legendary Hall of Famer who has starred in Vivid classics such as Looking In, Bare Stage, Experience Required, Blame It on Savanna, and Milf Stories has had that love for wine making ever since a young age? I raise a glass to her and everyone needs to check out her wine website http://www.savannasamsonwine.com/.
Hi Savanna, your newest Vivid film Savanna Samson is the Masseuse has been receiving glowing reviews. What are your feelings in being part of one of this studio's most successful and critically-acclaimed series ever?
Well, I haven't yet seen the reviews, but I can tell you I am proud to be part of Vivid's most successful series ever. I can honestly tell you I am very hard on myself and can't help but wonder if I did it justice! I hate to be like that, but when you have some of the all time greats being "The Masseuse" like Taylor Haze and of course, Jenna Jameson, I can't help but wonder. I'm happy to have been chosen by Jenna to play her wife in her Masseuse; which we won best Girl/Girl sex scene for! In my Masseuse, I worked with Holly Sampson who I thought was so very sexy and Trent Tesoro who did an amazing job and may even win Best Actor for his performance. As always, I love working with Voodoo. He's amazing and our scene together is one of the few I have a killer orgasm in. We didn't care about the cameras and he encouraged me to just let loose and go for it. It was one of my most memorable experiences on camera.
With the recent resurgence of the Vivid Contract Girl, what are your thoughts on this studio's newest girls Capri Anderson and Allie Haze?
When I saw that there were new Vivid Girls I was so happy. I was feeling devastated at the direction the industry was heading. I understand how difficult it is to sell movies with the Internet and all, but to have no contract girls? That would be a real shame. Steven Hirsch knows a Vivid Girl when he sees one and with Capri Anderson's beauty and newfound fame with the whole Charlie Sheen craze, she was a prefect contender as is, new starlet of the year Allie Haze. She is tall and wholesome in a naughty way and I think she will make an ideal Vivid Girl.
What does the title 'Vivid Girl" mean to you?
I was very proud to be a Vivid Girl. In fact, I couldn't have made it any other way in the adult industry. Vivid stood by me in all of my ventures and made sure to include me in whatever mainstream opportunity came along. I was so sad when I realized my contract had come to an end. I would like to believe I left Vivid knowing I brought something to the table. I had a great career and I will always be proud of being a Vivid Girl. I'm going to the LA Exxotca show Aug 26th through the 29th with my latest release The Masseuse so be sure to come see me and get a signed copy as it is my final one with Vivid. I will always hold my head high as a Vivid Girl.
How long have you been in the industry? What have been your most pleasurable moments? What has been your least pleasurable?
I loved being a Vivid Girl. I loved starring in my own movies. I loved transforming from little 'ole me to Savanna Samson. I started my career with Rocco Siffredi and that is how I'd like to end it. I am going to ask him to be my first and now my last. I don't want my last movie to be Savanna Samson is the Masseuse. I want it to be Rocco Retires an American Angel in Whereever. Hmmm, good idea? I will contact him. Wow, I just realized I didn't answer the question lol. The best was transforming into Savanna Samson, mostly with the help of Lee Garland, God rest his soul. I loved living in New York and then, getting to LA and becoming her…Savanna. The worst was trying to overcome typical sterotypes people have about perfomers.
How did you get into the adult industry?
Let me elaborate, I wrote a letter to Rocco Siffredi saying I want to make a movie. I was not in the industry. I just wanted to meet him and make a movie as a wedding present for my soon to be ex-husband. He was thrilled with the idea of working with someone who is not already a porn star. I ended up flying to Paris where we filmed, Rocco Meets an American Angel in Paris. When it came out in 2000, it was nominated for best foreign film. I went to the AVN awards, saw the Vivid booth in all it's glory and asked how I could become a Vivid Girl. The next thing I knew I was signing a contract with the pinnacle studio of the adult industry. I think it would be fun and interesting to exit the industry the same way I came in. Don't you agree?
Having grown up on a fruit ranch and being around vineyards, I appreciate anyone who ventures into the art of winemaking. How did you first become interested in it?
Very few people know that in fact, as a little girl, I made wine in the basement of my childhood home on Clinton street in Gouverneuer, NY. My sisters and I took turns churning the grapes and the result was well, moonshine, and a lot of trouble with the neighborhood boys! Really though, I always had an affinity for wine. I started traveling to Italy and France when I was very young and always dreaming of having my own vineyard one day. If I really take a moment and re-read your question I will answer quite differently. You asked how I first became interested in it and in essence what I was really interested in was making what I thought could be interesting more appealing. Wine tasting can be so tideous, pretentious and quite frankly boring and if you visit as many vineyards as I used to in one day, it is quite sickly really. I used to fantasize about how exciting I would make it for people to visit my vineyard. I used to imagine wine tasters planning their visits around mine and making my stop in the middle as a sort of, pick me up, if you will. Just wait until you see what exactly I mean by that, as I have now acquired 80% of an extraordinary vineyard and am going to make something beyond spectacular. A new venture has begun and it is foreplay at it's most exciting!
Was it difficult for other wine connoisseurs to take you seriously at the beginning of your venture on account of your adult career? I am so proud that your persistence has made your wines into pleasurable gems for so many people around the world.
I know it is not customary to say so during interviews, but I thank you for the way you are addressing me and asking me these questions. You are so very sweet and I thank you for that! As to my wine venture, it's incredible how strongly I felt in the beginning of this crazy decision of mine to dive into a world so sophisticated and far removed from my little comfort zone in the world of pleasure. Now, yet another "adult world of pleasure," but quite a different task when you talk about acceptance. In the beginning, when I launched, I felt the people were routing for me, as if, the world needed a new success story, and it was great. My wine sold out right away and it got rave reviews, but then, when I realized that I really have something magnificent here, I kind of freaked out, and lost my nerve, in a way. I put all of my money into the next vintages and didn't have the guru of wine raters, Robert Parker, publicly putting reviews of my new wine out there. I got lost in the man's world of wine and started to feel like people couldn't get past the "pornstar" making wine and "let's taste it" mindset. Now, I actually found a home for the Sogno Vero or True Dream and am about to put out something truly sensational. And yes I have to win over the distributors who think and actually say, out loud to my face (if you can believe it), "Well, you don't want to ruin the integrity of the brand…" Ummm, yea, like I just dumped all of my savings and future into something that I want to ruin! It's going to be tough, but I welcome the challenge as I believe in my terroir (land), my palette and the expertise of my partner, and I am about to release a Brunello di Montalcino that I am so proud of. I can't wait for you to try it!
I was intrigued and glad that you have decided to make champagne. Was it always a plan of yours to make this product? The word champagne can be intimidating for the novice fan. Even though that you are a seasoned winemaker, were there any apprehensions on your part on making champagne?
Yes, I did say publicly that I was going to make champagne. I was going to make a champagne with a house called Moutard in, well, in Champagne. I have put that idea on hold as a vineyard became available and I had to scrap and scrounge and find a way to make it possible to obtain. Now that I am a land owner in Italy, I may have to consider making a Francia Corta, which is sparkling Italian wine made in the style of champagne. I didn't mean to mislead, but my wheels are always turning and I may speak before things come to fruition.
You have received much acclaim and praise for your performances in I Was a Teenage Milf, Blame It on Savanna, Experience Required, and Teases & Pleases. What does all of this recognition on your superior acting abilities mean for your career? What does it mean to you in being a mainstream actress?
Lol, sorry but I just saw, on the Playboy channel, Vivid Valley, with PT (Paul Thomas) saying, and I quote, "No, mainstream actress? No. Savanna could never be a mainstream actress." Maybe so, but I still wanted to throw tomatoes at my bf's tv when I heard him say it! So much or that idea! If PT says I can't, I cant! All I know is that I used to be afraid of the script and I found I was much more comfortable in the nude. That being said, I probably couldn't be a very good mainstream actress.
What are some of the most striking changes that you have noticed in the adult industry since you have entered it years ago?
I guess the most striking is how accessible adult, and I stress the word ADULT content there is so readily available for free on the Internet. I used to defend the adult industry by saying that I work for a responsible company who shows no nudity unless you are of age, but it seems the attitude is, "If you can't beat em, join em." I don't get it! If everyone refused to give three minute snippits away for free than adults would have no choice but to bring out their damn credit cards. It makes me sick that I exposed myself to the world for everyone to see for free even my movies! As long as you cancel your subscription two days later, you get to watch me take it every which way for nothing for a few measly dollars. It's crazy. And more and more gorgeous little things are doing it. It's like Sunny Leonne says, "It's the World Wide Web" and with that being said there has to be money to be made, but not for me. I entered a contract thinking I would get paid for what I brought to the table, but I got my base, which, apparently, these days is high, but you can see me for free on the Internet and that is not fair to me or anyone who invested in me.
You are breathtaking in Boy/Girl and Girl/Girl scenes. What traits of a woman do you admire most? What makes a woman sexy? What traits of a man do you admire most? What makes a man sexy?
Geez, so many questions in one! First of all, thank you for saying so about the scenes. In fact, I'll have to go back and look again as I am my worst critic! I love a woman's lips. I love to kiss and the idea of the sensuality between two women is beyond desirable. I love to lick pussy and the feel of a woman's body next to mine. Confidence and posture make a woman sexy. And seeing her in my lingerie lol. I love a woman who is ok with her sensuality and sexuality and can let go of her inhibitions when she is with me. I will worship her if she lets me. Men are even more sexy when they are confident and allow themselves to take control of a situation. I am turned on by men who know who they are and don't need to look at themselves for approval. When I am with a man or a woman, and they are connected with me, look at me, and get lost in the moment together with me, it's the most exhilarating experience. So many times I will find a man attractive until we get together and suddenly it becomes about them and their reflection wherever they can find it. Being lost in the moment is so sexy. Men who take over and demand what they want from me makes me crazy. Good crazy! I find a man who knows what he wants and makes me feel like a woman yet a little girl at the same time to be so God damn sexy. I want to be dominated. I want a confident man with a strong, hard cock, to tell me what to do. Oh shit, sorry, I'm getting carried away. What was the question? Where's my vibrator when I answer these damn questions?
What has been the biggest surprise for you about the adult industry?
Hmmm? The biggest surprise from the beginning was winning best actress for Looking In. What?! I was so happy to be nominated! And then, the fact that my last movie with Vivid when my contract ran out. I don't even know the title. Vivid is such a unique company that that they make it easy to keep in touch. Steven is always receptive to new ideas and former Vivid Girls are always stopping by to say hello.
Are there any industry people (actors, actresses, directors, etc.) who you have not had the opportunity to work with yet and want to very badly and why? What would be your dream scene?
Yes. I want to fuck the shit out of Jesse Jane and so and so from Digital Playground. I miss Vivid Girl Sunrise Adams.
How were you as a kid growing up?
I was one of five girls growing up. I was pretty much the star child with my ballet and the fact that I was pretty much the neutral one. The one that everyone could come to. I wanted to be a nun and I even spent time at the convent, but I wanted to have sex so I scratched that idea. I didn't know how to say no. I didn't have the words. I wanted people and boys to like me, but I didn't know how to say I wasn't ready and I didn't want to. I ran out of excuses and lost my virginity before I wanted to. I was and still am a people pleaser. Damn, I need to work on that!
What are your hobbies and interests?
My main focus and interests now is Italy. I am trying to learn Italiano and I am traveling constantly to Italy to learn and absorb everything i can about Tuscany, the terroir, and the art of wine making. I am very much in shape, although I wouldn't call it an interest, but I am a fan of Spartan Races and find myself wanting to do the next one wherever it is in the world. I hate it actually. You get all dirty and it's so damn difficult, but when you pass the finish-line, you just start crying, and it's amazing. My son is my interest and hobby as every darn weekend I am at some kind of sporting event! At one point, your hobbies become whatever your kid's hobbies and interests are. My son is an amazing baseball player (spoken like a true mother, right?) He is! I swear! Anyway, better get used to it as he is only 10. Oh f*** there's soccer too!
What is your favorite thing about being an adult performer?
I loved being in front of the camera and connecting with whoever is watching. I used to get yelled by the director for gazing into the lens as we were making "real movies." Now, just for that pleasure, I should make another movie, a gonzo one that I can do such a thing without getting scolded! I did do Anyway You Want Me with my own production company, but I would do it much better today given the chance! I love the adult industry, I do, but I would need to transfer everyday life and opera into adult film and that is not the craze right now. I would like to make the porno version of Aida and Madame Butterfly, but the cost would never be recouped with the Internet with the way it is now. What goes around comes around, right? Maybe one day.
Are there any web sites or future projects that you would like to promote? What are you currently working on film wise?
I have yet another reality type show in the works called, Full Bodied, about life after porn and trying to make a success in the wine world, hell in any world. Sounds interesting to me, but for these things to work, you need to be able to expose yourself and your family completely and honestly and I don't know if I am willing to do that. I do want to make one more adult film and I would like it to be with Rocco Siffredi. I am not sure if I could take that big, rough thing again, but the idea is there! Even in the wine world, with my new winery, I 'm not sure if I can mix the two. I know I have a story there, but I also have an amazing wine and without any disrespect to the adult world, that really defines me. I am at a loss as to how I must proceed with it. I have to keep true to who I am and where I came from without falling into negative judgement. My wine will speak for itself in the long run as will the person I am on the inside and out. I enjoyed this interview immensely and I thank you for the feeling of admiration in the way you presented your questions.
Big kiss,
Savanna
