The phrase "never judge a book by it's cover" can be applied to Aurora Snow. In this very honest interview, the beautiful adult Hall of Famer opens up about her childhood, gaining confidence in herself, and also being a loving and caring sister. She is a person that any young lady can look up to and say, "I'd love to grow up just like her. She really has her priorities and life all figured out." On a personal note, I am proud to know her. Aurora reminds me of that adorable reindeer with the glowing nose that everyone looked to for inspiration. Now, that's a true winner in my book.
Hi Aurora, just recently, you have been chosen to be one of the 2011 XRCO Hall of Fame inductees. Last year, you were selected into the CAVR Hall of Fame. Both honors are richly deserved. What are your thoughts of achieving this top honor in your career?
I am both stunned and honored to be inducted into XRCO and CAVR’s Hall of Fames so early. I realize I have now been in the business for the last ten years, but didn’t expect to receive such accolades so soon. It’s exciting to be recognized among so many other stars.
For our XCritic readers, could you talk about how you got into the adult industry? What have been your most memorable moments of your career? What has been your least pleasurable ones?
I got into the adult industry by answering a newspaper ad. I began by doing a few photo shoots which quickly escalated into video work. I never expected to like it. In fact, I was sure I would do it for a year, make some great money, and then get out and never look back. I entered this industry a shy, conservative girl and discovered myself in front of the cameras. I ended up really enjoying my new found career and my plans changed. Instead of running from it, I embraced it. There isn’t much I haven’t done at this point. There are certain scenes and movies that really stand out. I loved directing/creating my Assploitations series for Mayhem, that was a highlight of my career certainly. I also have some very fond memories of my years as a Playboy TV host. And then there is Gag Factor 5, a throat fucking scene made very popular by Howard Stern. I’m told he still plays that clip even now. It's funny how that clip prompted an invite onto his show, coupled with the fact that one of his listeners is a blind man who insisted that I was his favorite adult actress thanks to my “unique’ noises. The adult industry is so much more accepted these days that my adult career has opened several mainstream opportunities in the last few years. I have written a couple of articles for The Daily Beast, appeared in a web-series for Comedy Central, was in an independent movie last year, and am signed on to do two more mainstream movies this year.
What was the biggest surprise for you about the adult industry when you started?
I was most surprised by how nice and upfront everyone was. People were courteous on set and always made me feel welcome as a newcomer.
I enjoyed your hosting duties on Playboy TV's Private Calls and the mainstream roles that have come your way. It's heartening that people look at you more than just a sex object. Could you tell us your feelings that those people have so much confidence in your abilities to provide a very good role for them?
I cannot speak for the way others view me, but I have been told I embody the idea of the girl next door. I am a naturally happy person, low-maintenance personality, and love doing what I do. I suppose all of that comes across and so I’ve been very lucky to have had the opportunities that I have.
One major quality that I highly admire about you is that you adjust quickly to adverse situations. This special inner trait can be applied to both your career and personal life. In your blog entry for The Daily Beast titled Confessions of a Porn Milf, you expressed your bewilderment of how directors looked at you once you reached a certain age and thus, a new career direction had to take place. Also, in a much more important and significant role, you have had to be a much-loving and caring sister to your injured brother. Both instances were life-changing episodes in your life. How were you able to adapt so quickly?
I feel like as people we do what we have to do. I had no idea how I was going to handle my brothers accident, but it certainly changed my life. Life is so short. I believe in always moving forward and living life to the fullest because you never know when it will change or end. Why waste time being upset or angry about things? Life happens, so take a day to evaluate it and then move forward.
It is very apparent that your sex appeal is very striking on and off the screen. You are very stimulating regardless of who you are performing with. I loved your work in the 2010 films Seasoned Players 12 and Miss Conduct. What traits of a woman do you admire most? What makes a woman sexy? What traits of a man do you admire most? What makes a man sexy?
Thank you. I admire strong ambitious women, who aren’t so caught up in themselves that they forget to tune into the world around them. A woman with a vision is sexy. One who feels comfortable in her own skin. Men who know how to command a situation are very appealing. Men who have manners, are courteous to others, and don’t feel the need the need to be rude to those less fortunate just to boost their own ego. A sense of humor is a desirable quality in either sex.
Are there any particular industry talent (actors, actresses, directors, studios) who you want to work very badly with and why? What would be your dream scene?
Wow. Think I have played out every dream scene I’ve ever had….
How were you as a kid growing up?
I was a quiet shy reserved little girl. Always had my nose in a book, didn’t have many friends. I refused to play at recess or join in any games. I preferred to read. I use to read three to five books a week. I was the little girl who read the dictionary for fun. I’ve outgrown some of that, but am still an avid reader.
What are your hobbies and interests?
Reading and writing have been my longest interests. Aside from that, I love to cook, it's my new fascination (baking pies are my specialty). I enjoy going to the gym and have recently begun taking yoga classes. I love learning, and am always open to what I can take in.
Why is being an adult performer so much fun?
I am introvert, and being an adult performer provides a fairly safe environment to explore myself and let lose. It allows me to tap into another side of myself and has taught me how to be comfortable in my own skin. It has given me a sense of confidence that I lacked upon entering the business.
Please tell everyone about Keith's Cause? Are there any web sites or future projects that you would like to promote? What are you currently working on film wise?
A lot of my life is now devoted to helping my brother obtain proper treatment for his injury. He was in a motorcycle accident and was left with an incomplete spinal cord injury. He is currently paralyzed from the neck down (a quadriplegic) the potential to regain function is there, but he needs proper treatment. Sadly insurance only covers maintenance of his condition and not recovery therapy or devices. A section of my website is devoted to my brother, Keiths Cause (http://aurorasnow.com/keithscause.php).
The last fundraiser was a wine tasting fundraiser at Pourtal In Santa Monica, which went over rather well. I am still learning the ropes of fund-raising, but it looks like our next one will be a night of comedy with several stand-up comedians donating their time at the Jon Lovitz Comedy Club at the Universal CityWalk. I’m really excited to see this one unfold, I have a feeling its going to be the best yet. We are trying to put it together in the next 6 weeks or so. We’re ironing out dates currently. I will post all the info on my website www.aurorasnow.com
Film wise, I have an independent movie coming up, we began filming in March. I play a girl out to avenge my sister and I learn how to kill the men standing in my way to find her. Of course my character has never killed anyone before so she takes a number of beatings before she gets the hang of it. There will be a lot of fake blood and special effects make-up that I am really looking forward to.
In case it sounds like I am retired, I am not. I still work in the adult industry, I just have a number of other projects going on as well. I was just on set several weeks ago for Sweet Sinner, we filmed a very hot girl/girl scene.
Thank you to everyone for all the support in which endeavor I embark, from adult to mainstream to fund-raising. Always appreciated and means a lot to see how much people care.
