Seriously, I’ve Fucking Had It…Studios, Listen Up!

Dear studios,

I understand your concern about VOD and the effect it has on your bottom line. I think we can all agree that you kinda screwed the pooch a couple years back when you got into a business you didn't fully comprehend believing the money you made off your content in this format was, "found money". Thankfully, over the last year or so, studios have started to reexamine their VOD practices and begin negotiating new VOD contracts after they realized the hit they were taking offering their content for rock bottom, dirt slut prices.

It's your content folks, shouldn't you decide what it's worth? Of course you should. Plus, VOD overhead is almost non-existent in comparison to DVDs! See, in the DVD world there's a shit ton of overhead...warehousing, inventory, staff, etc...and yet, most adult retailers are pulling at least 50% margin on those products.

So why would you settle for something less from a retailer that has no overhead whatsoever? Folks, it just don't make sense. If you spend more than $15K on any one film, don't you think you deserve better pricing than the shmuck who shot his content on VHS 10 years ago? How about premium pricing?

Are you really that afraid of AEBN or Hotmovies?

In addition, why do you limit the number of sites that offer your content on VOD? What is the purpose in that? Would you limit the retail chains that sold your DVDs if they didn't move units? Of course not, don't  you want your product in front of as many consumers as possible? Of course you do. You're hurting yourself by limiting your locations.

Here's a bit of brilliance, how about you have varying royalty rates based on the volume of sales...kind of like you do with DVDs...kind of makes sense no?

If little VOD company X wants to offer your content but only sends you $100 checks each month, then insist on a higher commission. If VOD company Y sends you $10,000 per month, perhaps accept a lower %.
