From the very first moment I became an adult reviewer almost two years ago, I looked forward to what was and is known as the biggest porn convention out in Vegas the Adult Entertainment Expo. Granted I've been watching porn since I can recall and remember watching Traci Lord, Seka Vanessa Del Rio and Ron Jeremy. The prospect of seeing all the female talent in one place during a span of a week sounded like fun. It is to some extent. As a first timer I took notice of a lot of small things that to others wouldn't matter. Nevertheless, for me it led to a lot of questions. I know that right off the bat that the industry is made to help men live out their fantasies with beautiful women.
However...what about the women that watch porn. Do they not deserve to see their favorite male talent as well? Granted a few of the most well know male performers do show up to meet and greet their fans but it is fair to the men not to be in a booth signing as well. Without men working side by side with the ladies would porn be the same, not really. You would have a vast amount of g/g titles than you would know what to do it.
Don't get me wrong porn is the only place where in today society it's a female domination workplace which is great but also give the men their due. I've read many articles over the course of two years just how short changed the men are in the adult industry. Even the most recent articles in XBiz Premiere has a write up about how literally is harder it is for men to make a name for themselves and it does take a toll on them too leaving them to burn out so much faster.
Another thing that I noticed of is that a lot of the women on the showroom floor that professed that they take care of their bodies don't and that's a shame especially since your body is what is making you the big bucks. Perhaps its just vanity speaking but the men do make sure that they remain fit and toned from the few that I have had the pleasure of speaking with.
Something I seriously think more of the ladies should consider doing. Think of it as getting the most mileage out of a brand new car. You want to maintain it always before it breaks down on you. The abundance of sensual and sexy ladies at the show made me wonder just how many take the time out to see to keep in shape and maintain that youthfulness we see on screen. As with any job, eventually it takes it toll some harder than the other making them look like skin and bones and so very unattractive.
Don't get me wrong , I have the upmost respect for all the men and women in the adult industry and always will. They each take on a role which others could never do and bring to life so many fantasies put before them. For them this is "their job" and they enjoy bringing pleasure to the screen for so many others to enjoy. What more can one ask for...
The show had many good points for me especially meeting the close knit family over at Shane's World( Megan, Nate Brother Love)and interviewing the wonderful ladies from Digital Playground. I cant wait till next year to hang out with them again! I also got to meet the infamous Don Houston who has been my mentor and a great help with teaching me the ropes and then there is "G" .. The heart and soul of XCritic.
During the course of the week, I met so many wonderful performer both male and female and saw a few which I have had the pleasure of already meeting here in NYC: Vivid Girls Savanna Samson, Monique Alexander and the Spanish heart throb Marco Banderas and his beautiful wife Lisa.
If there was a high point to mention , I guess I would have to say it was meeting several of the Directors from Vivid, Wicked( David Stanley... you are a man with so much vision one can not help but wonder how you come up with your ideas.. this goes for all directors at Wicked), Digital Playground and Shane's World and getting to talk with them in length. But I think the best thing that I could say that I enjoyed was meeting a few of my favorite men to watch on screen Evan Stone, Manuel Ferrera, Tommy Gunn, Derrick Pierce and of course Jean Val Jean who is no longer in the industry.
Maybe next year things will be a bit different with more of the men signing at the booths and perhaps maybe a limit set on just how many autographs a fan can ask for. That was the only thing that had me upset through out the entire week. Fans toting cases of pics for the ladies to sign and take up precious time in the process. Until next year.... But for now keep reading my reviews and please feel free to comment on them and on my story line thread..
