Reviews 101: Pt 3: The
Oldies

One thing that X Critic's adult section does that most other review sites don't is cover the classic XXX titles of the seventies and eighties. While the 'spank factor' of some of the older material might not be up to par with more modern adult fare or your typical gonzo compilation of fuck scenes, there's no denying that some of these older titles have a charm all their own and many of them are quite erotic in their own right. Maybe it's the better production values, the fact that at lot of this stuff was shot on film or the fact that more often than not the performers didn't just fuck on camera but actually tried to act, but a lot of vintage titles are both sexy and fun (many times unintentionally so).

A few older catalogue titles have been released by VCA as of late. Chop Stix, starring the lovely Samantha Morgan and Serena, is a nice mix of humor and heat that concentrates on a catering truck run by professional whores who serve up all manner of tasty treats for their clients. Juicy Lucy is another old school hit, starring Jamie Gillis, Nina Hartley and Rebecca Steele in a movie which proves that squirt fetish films aren't necessarily a new trend! Erotic Radio WSEX is another fun entry from VCA, starring Bill Margold, Desiree Lane and Kay Parker in the story of a disc jockey who is, in all reality, more of a 'dick' jockey who finds himself in hot water after making a woman come live on the air. And who can forget how porn often imitated mainstream with titles like 8 To 4, the now classic spoof on the Dolly Parton, Jane Fonda, and Lilly Tomlin flick where the workers put one over on the boss? Say what you will but Loni Sanders, Annette Haven, and Lisa DeLeeux were far more sexually attractive to most men and the level of humor was just as good in the porn version.

Suze Randall has been in the business a long time and is still going strong. Pure Play Media has done a nice job of releasing some of her older material to the public on DVD, and those who have enjoyed her more recent fare, working with some of the best looking girls in the business on such projects as Slut School and I Love Lanny might want to step back in time and check out some of her earlier work, like Sky Foxes, starring Krista Lane and Brittany Stryker as two of the hottest flight attendants around. If that's too recent for you, there are the Suze's Centerfolds compilations that combine some of the grand matron of filth film's early shorts together on DVD proving that she's always had a keen eye for making even the simplest of sex scenes look hot and heavy.

Video-X-Pix has also done a fine job putting out some more obscure classic titles on DVD. Cult movie fans might be interested in seeking out their DVD release of The Violation Of Claudia when they learn that it was directed by none other than William Lustig, the same man who made Maniac and Vigilante and who now runs Blue Underground! Jamie Gillis and the lovely Sharon Mitchell make this one well worth watching. You say you like your old school porn with a bit of a New York flavor? Check out Bang Bang starring C.J. Laing and Annie Sprinkle, two of the finest females to work in the early NYC XXX scene. C. J. also shows up in Ecstasy In Blue, alongside Annie Sprinkle again. These two appeared in a lot of the same movies during the years they were active, and in Ecstasy In Blue you can witness them teaming up on 'Mister 10 1/2' himself, Marc Stevens.

Of course, the one that started it all is Gerard Damiano's Deep Throat, which has recently received an interesting 'High Def' release that, although not without its faults, is an essential purchase for anyone even remotely interested in the porno of the past. Although the movie was shot full frame, the widescreen framing on this new release, supposedly taken from the newly discovered original negative, is a vast improvement in picture quality and the cropping of the compositions thankfully doesn't hurt things too much. If you've never seen the highest grossing adult motion picture of all time, now there's no excuse. The movie that made Linda Lovelace a household name and that ushered in the era of 'porno chic' in the seventies finally gets a decent special edition release. Old porno movies are definitely worth exploring and there's no better place for the uninitiated to start than with Deep Throat and the fifteen minute documentary that accompanies the feature makes for a fun crash course in the history of seventies era porno movies. Fans of the movie might also like to take a look at Damiano's Throat- 12 Years After, where the legendary director revisited his roots with an even more impressive cast a dozen years after the blockbuster made waves. Just to see industry icons like Joey Silvera and Sharon Mitchell in their heyday was worth a peek but Damiano's evolution as a director before the industry switched over to using video was pretty educational as well.

Highlights of The
Week

Having watched plenty of comedy porn in recent years, I've come to the
conclusion that unless a director is trying to get the audience to laugh
at the movie, most attempts fail due to the limitations of budget
and acting ability by most performers. Because of this, there are only
two names I trust to bring me a routine dose of the genre, Jonathan
Morgan and Robby D., with
Robby providing the funniest title of the week with My First Porn 3
(Teagan Presley). The show is a spin off from the popular Jack's
Playground series where Jack has finally started to direct his first
porno. The assistance of an aged mentor (with hilarious voice-overs by
Joey Pulgadas) who espouses standard porn doctrine, often belittling the
fledgling director, provides some great counterpoints to the sexual
tension displayed by the cast. This volume benefits not only with the
inclusion of the contract superstar Teagan Presley, but the reigning
anal queen herself Katja Kassin
and others to balance out the limited amounts of non-sex material.

On an interesting technical note, we had a couple of solid titles from a
relative newcomer in the field of porn by a company called High Def Home
Entertainment. The claim to fame for the company is exploiting the
higher resolution of the WMV-HD format to enhance their releases to a
level approaching that of the upcoming HD-DVD and Blu-Ray formats that
are about to spark one of the biggest fights in competing formats since
DVD Vs. Divx or maybe even VHS Vs. Beta to hear the claims of the
industry insiders. In any case, you'll need to watch these on a special
DVD player or via your home computer but they show that small companies
can make waves too. Both High Def Lesbians
1 and Dreamcummers
are vignette driven so there will be no need to fast forward through
plot. Neither provided circus act sex but they did offer up some
passionate boning aimed squarely at the couples market and a glimpse of
better looking porn for the future.

It doesn't take a military genius to see the strategic value of offering
up over four hours of heated, hardcore, nasty sex as in Obsession: Special
Extended Set by Christoph Clark for Evil Angel. Led by the awesome
Tiffany Mynx and Katsumi, the all star foreign cast provided some of the
best replay value you'll find- as long as you can handle the wild
variety of circus act sex tricks. The fuck for your buck quotient was
off the charts because of this and your stroke per dollar ratio will
exceed that of any other offering we reviewed this week. Still, in terms
of anal madness, we also provided another look at the popular Harmony
release of Katja Kassin's
Fuck Me (that we saw an earlier PAL version of last year with This Review).
We also got a chance to see the dark earl of porn tapping booty with Sean Michaels
Rocks That Ass 25 and another Platinum X Picture worth looking into, Anal Violation
2. Anal sex is common in porn these days but each of these titles
was a cut or two above the pack so you won't go wrong with any of them
according to out reviewers.

Next up are a couple of older hits in the mix with Dinner Party,
a movie that our own hotty Goldenmuse said: "earns the distinction of
being the first porn film that Goldenmuse ever enjoyed" and the far older Chop Stix
opening up the column this week with a story about some hookers that
give a whole new meaning to the term Roach Coach. Both of them
remind us that while many consider porn to be disposable, you can find
titles with a lot of replay value if you look for them, with loads of
examples being reviewed of late here like Dark Angels 1
coming to mind as the kind of heated flick that bucks the assembly line
of porn to provide something special. Still, when Goldenmuse speaks
about titles that she enjoys, it would make sense to listen since she
has proven to be one of our most hard to please reviewers; needing more
than a generic setting and cast to trip her trigger.

It's hard to imagine that anyone having watched much porn in the last
couple of years would be unfamiliar with Canadian hotty Lanny Barby,
due in large part to her gorgeous blue eyes, curvy but lean figure, and
killer moves in bed. This gonzo turned contract star once again altered
perceptions by proving that Vivid gals are more than just looks as she
boned her way through $2 Bill (Lanny
Barby). The story is about a piece of currency that switches hands
from one couple to another, making it's way back into the loving hands
of Ms. Barby with one of the most diverse casts seen in recent years
from Vivid. Director B. Skow shows he doesn't miss a beat as he proves
yet again that he is capable of showcasing the cast with a fine looking
picture that few thought possible a few years back. Other titles that
will appeal to fans of features and stylish direction this week were The Pamela
Principle and its attractive cast; Cheating
Housewives 2, with Tiffany Mynx displaying her fine assets yet
again, and the visually intriguing Neo Pornographia 4 from the vaults of Michael Ninn.

Our ongoing tribute to the varied use of semen continued with Down Your Throat
5 showing a series of gals that enjoyed tasting anything that came
their way, swallowing like little darlings in the process, and Cream Pie for the
Straight Guy 3; where the loads were deposited in the other end.
Each had a pretty fair selection of performers known for their own
unique set of skills and some of them appeared to be ready to pounce
long before the sex began. Still, whether you prefer gals that swallow
or gals that like a hot load driven home, each had some truth in
advertising that lesser quality titles lacked.

Famed reviewer Namrufmot was the first to point out that Mark Ashley's All
Teens 1 was "one of those rare "teen" DVDs where the girls actually
look like teens" and that it offered "very young girls in action you'll
definitely want to pick this title up". If that wasn't enough, the
appeal of the youthful cast in terms of looks alone was more than enough
to provide some serious replay value in all but one scene. Other titles
in the genre worth pointing out this week were Young As They Cum
19 and Freshly
Fucked; each sporting some meritorious performances by some of the
leading newcomers in porn of late.

Lastly, Rob enjoyed the large breasted wonders of Hustler's Busty
Beauties while Michael saw some of that sultry Latina heat in Latin Adultery
#2; each offering more than a little stroke value with the saying
that "the cream rises to the top" coming to mind. With all the targeted
niches covered handily, they brought this week to its knees with a bang
as no other titles in their respective categories merited special
attention. This will change in upcoming weeks as a lot of ethnic and
breast titles are headed our way but keep an eye out for these two
nonetheless.

Spotlight Performer/Director: Erik Everhard

Say what you will about the multitude of male porn performers turned directors but the bottom line is that a relative handful stands out from
the crowd in terms of the kind of perspective they offer up in their
movies. One such man is Erik Everhard; a guy whose sexual libido is in
the top echelon of porn, and whose directing skills seem to be a cut
above the pack. In recent years, he has knocked title after title out of
the park in terms of sexual energy, passion, and sheer enthusiasm but
also in terms of the amounts of fuck for the buck they offered. Anyone
that has seen hits such as Anal POV #3, Cum In My Ass, Not
In My Mouth 4, Jailbait 2, Out Numbered 3, Ass Obsessed 4, Cum Filled Asshole
Overload 2, Sport Fucking
4, Ass Obsessed
3, and Sport Fucking
3, will be able to figure out why he was so aggressively recruited
by the legendary Buttman himself to leave a sweet directing gig in favor
of coming over to Evil Angel.

Watching his almost animalistic drive in action during a scene is enough to convince me that he is a sexual beast of near limitless proportions
as he goes non-stop in a sort of trance when with a particularly
attractive lady. Rumors abound that his upcoming Canadian
Beaver is going to provide just as much of his antics in front of
the camera as behind it, showing that this renaissance man can do it
all, and do it all well, to the point where his services are in

when surrounded by friends. If you want to see how well he handles
himself when not behind the camera as well, here's a few choices that

Upcoming Titles

While we originally didn't think it was possible for such an icon to
leave his directorial home, Erik
Everhard's Canadian Beaver looks to show the world that the talent
was in the director, not the company as the well liked guy moves to Evil
Angel for his directorial debut. There is something to be said for a guy
that provides four hours of all new, super powerful sex in a movie,
jamming as much value adding material as he can onto this two disc set.
From the looks of the front DVD cover, none of the ladies were filler
material so we're hoping this title shines like some of his other recent
works for Red Light District.

Colonel Mustard will be looking at Swallow
My Pride 8, a series that a great many people seem to have
appreciated over the years. Say what you will about the young,
attractive, orally talented ladies the series showcases but there are no
consistently better competitors in terms of providing truth in
advertising, high end technical values, and a lot of fuck for your buck
as this one has in the past. "Watch our sluts suck down
sizable servings of seed. Don't miss this hardcore action featuring vag,

Lesbian
Dreams is one of those compilations that reviewer Jack O'Toole seems
to appreciate as much as any of us here at X Critic. With over two hours

looks to be another winner by the company, in
their synopsis: "This is a romp of lesbian fantasies, from a whip
lashing dominatrix and poolside lesbian orgies to lesbian sex parties.
These pussy loving babes can't resist the lure of a dripping gash!"

Disco Dirge will hopefully be able to tell us if the internet rumors are
true that Lil
Jon's Vivid Vegas Party is "off the hook" or not. "Produced by Lil Jon. Features never before heard beats by Lil
Jon himself! Hip-Hop goes hardcore. International rap superstar Lil Jon
has done the unthinkable, he produced and stars in Vivid's newest,
totally hardcore sextravaganza. Lil' Jon gets crunk with Vivid's
exclusive honeys Mercedez and and Lexie and the finest-assed ethnic
stars Ayana, Angel Eyes and more at the AVN adult movie awards. The

Follow the sexual hijinks of famed director Viv Thomas as Club DVD
delivers "maid to order" XXX action in this two-hour feature
extravaganza. Be sure to sample each tantalizing option on the /Room
Service/ menu at least once!"

Namrufmot will be up at bat to say if Breakin
In The New Chick 2 lives up to the marketing hype of: "Mr. Pete is
back with his second cunt crashin' edition of /Breakin' In The New
Chick./ Watch these gutter whores as they're broken in, Mr. Pete style.
They'll beg for that thick cock meat and squirt their quim in ecstasy
when they get their full load!" In large part, Pete is one of the most
perverted guys in porn so we expect this sequel to draw some attention,
especially given the cast list on the front DVD cover!

Big
Titty Women 2 looks like a winner given the busty babes on the front
DVD cover but we'll reserve judgment until we read the review by Rob
Randell in the coming days. The cover said: "They've got the tits that
would stop traffic. Don't miss these big breasted beauties in this
double team fuck-fest!" but we've heard that before and even with the
quality of a cast like this and director Martin Del Toro at the helm, we
want some assurances that this lengthy ode to bosoms will be as good as
it sounds.

Cum
in My Mouth I'll Spit it Back in Yours 4 will be the challenge for
Saul Good to review as the men in the movie end up on the receiving end
of their own loads. The back cover said: "Payback is a bitch. Remember
every time you made a girl gag by shooting your load in her mouth? Well
now they're here to show you what it was like. These girls not only take
it, but they give it back. But these guys don't mind, they happily get
on their knees and eat up every bit of their own man-juice. Guess the
guys get the last laugh, or should we say, "drop"!"

Overlooked Titles

The straightforward presentation of director Guy Capo starts off this
week's look at blasts (or is that bl_ASS_ts?) from the past with Ass Factor,
the first in a series of anal ASStravaganzas devoted to fine young ass
on the prowl. There had been some controversy about this one thanks to
false internet rumors but Don dug up the truth for his review and told
us it "was full of the kind of heated, passionate, energetic, sex I like
to see in a porno. The cast was attractive and I think director Guy Capo
has a winner on his hands that I feel easily earned a rating of Highly
Recommended with. The extras contributed to the replay value and the
running time was a nice change of pace for DVSX so if you want to see
some very well done anal action, give this one a look. For the record,
there is only one version of the DVD so don't listen to those who would
lead you to believe the European volume has anything different on it
(like most internet rumors started by unreliable "consortiums", this one
proved to be false too)."

Rob found the four hours of sex provided by Intensities in 10
Cities 2 to be a chief reason for enjoying this two disc set by
famed pornographer Brandon Iron saying: "With four hours of heated sex
and plenty of bonuses, how could you go wrong?" as well as "Brandon Iron
takes 11 chicks all over the world. The girls have sex in cities like
Berlin, Ottawa, Barcelona, New York City, and more. There are a total of
10 scenes, which are not short quickies, but long full fledged sex
scenes. In fact, there's so much content two DVDs are included! So, you
really get quite a lot of your dollar."

The Dude was lucky enough to score reviewing a clash of the anal titans
in Darkko's Anal
Showdown, pointing out that: "Jonni Darkko
presents a showdown between two lovely women, Katja Kassin
and Lauren Phoenix. This disc was actually a competition. Viewers can
log into a website and vote for who they thought put in (out) the best.
Viewers have the chance of winning prizes and merchandise if they vote.
The showdown was broken down into three rounds. The first round was solo
action, the second was girl on girl, and the third round was
boy-boy-girl. The set up really framed the action and both girls
performed well. All the action was pretty hot and nothing got too
intense to turn off any viewers, although there was gaping and a lot of
anal play of course. I recommend this disc with no hesitations."

While the battle of the asses took place in Darkko's lair, reviewer
Disco Dirge found a pleasant little experience checking out The Anal
Express with some of the finest anal performances recorded by the
legendary Seymore Butts, stating: "While it can be said that there are
other, hotter releases out there in the Butts canon, The Anal Express is
still a damn good bit of balling. Even in its quieter, simpler moments,
we are treated to some exceptionally hot suck and fuck. Such consistency
is hard to come by, but it seems like, every other week, the Dirge is
celebrating another bawdy Seymore burlesque. On his patented Peter
Meter, the Disco Dirge rates this title a 7 out of 10. It is highly
recommended. Couples will also take pleasure in the softer, more
story-oriented elements of the film, while equally enjoying the
blistering bonk. Therefore, a Cohabitation Certification is effortlessly
awarded. With Seymore's relationship with Mari more or less an open book
(it was the premise of the Season 3 premier of /Family Business/), it
makes sense that a more domesticated element has entered the director's
dynamic. But while his life may be tamer, his titles are still
rip-roaring and red hot. The Anal Express proves that, as a
pornographer, Seymore has yet to lose his touch."

We conclude our look into the past this week with a glimpse of Michael's
review of Killer Grip 2
by Smash Pictures. The movie was directed by Frank Thring and his main
squeeze Zora Banx with our reviewer pointing out a fact often forgotten
about sex on screen: "Sometimes the tease can be far more stimulating
than the actual penetration. Watching these ladies tease the guys by
bringing their stiff dicks oh-so-close to their lips without touching
'em as they were stroking, was extremely stimulating. While I admit that
I was hoping, no, PRAYING that these girls would get fucked, the fact
that there's no penetration was part of the attraction for me. Add to
