I’m not sure why Wednesdays are particularly tedious, but here are some fun facts about sex that made me giggle.
- In several countries, some new brides place tiny bags containing chicken’s blood into the vagina before intercourse to prove the hymen was intact before marriage. In other countries, women have placed congealed sheep’s blood in their vaginas for the same purpose. This is brilliant. I hate that women still have to “prove” their virginity, but this will make their wedding night much less awkward.
- The record for the most female orgasms is 134 in one hour. The study was reportedly conducted by William Hartman and Marilyn Fithian of the Center for Marital and Sexual Studies in California. This is cited online in a few articles, but I couldn’t find the original research. I couldn’t believe it, but then I read about Sylvia Konior, an artist who claims to have had 138 orgasms in one hour. She recorded everything and took a photo during each orgasm. The artist completely created the work from orgasm to printing.
- A single sperm contains 37.5 MB of DNA information. One ejaculation represents a data transfer of 15,875 GB, equivalent to the combined capacity of 62 MacBook Pro laptops.
- In 26 states, impotence is grounds for divorce. There are so many crazy laws about sex!
- A single human male produces enough sperm in two weeks to impregnate every fertile woman on the planet.
- Gymnophoria is the sense that someone is mentally undressing you, according to Urban Dictionary.
- Almost a third of all women over 80 still have sex with their partners.
- Nearly 10 percent of all dreams include sex. Do they? I’m falling behind!
- Three percent of people have no sexual fantasies at all. According to Justin Lehmiller, D., a research fellow at The Kinsey Institute and author of a study on sexual fantasies and the book Tell Me What You Want: The Science of Sexual Desire and How It Can Help You Improve Your Sex Life. The vast majority (97%) say they fantasize somewhere between several times per week and several times per day. The surprising part is that some people report zero sexual fantasies.
- Studies show that arousal and orgasm boost your immune system. So next time you’re feeling under the weather, order soup, play some sexy tunes and start fucking like your life depends on it.
- A man can reduce his chances of getting prostate cancer by having at least four orgasms weekly. Take care of your man. Apparently, four orgasms a day is what keeps the doctor away.
- Good news, dick lovers! Semen is low in calories, so don’t worry about those four loads. Thirty-six calories in a teaspoon, to be exact.
- Lesbians have the most orgasms. Sorry, dear hetero readers but yay to me! A study that looked at the relationship between sexual orientation and orgasm occurrence found that heterosexual women climaxed 61.6 percent of the time, homosexual women climaxed 74.7 percent of the time, and bisexual women climaxed 58 percent of the time. This might be my favorite fun fact about sex!
