A 46-year-old exhibitionist was shot at a nudist beach near Lyon, France after he was caught masturbating by a septuagenarian naturist. The police knew him, so he must be a local troublemaker.

The pervy exhibitionist had been wreaking havoc all morning, according to the French newspaper ‘Le Parisien.’ He had been insulting and threatening people at the nudist beach when he was caught masturbating by a septuagenarian naturist. The 46-year-old man was killed on La Mama beach in the Grand Parc Miribel-Jonage, on the outskirts of Lyon, at around 10:30 am on Saturday, July 23, 2022.

Witnesses said that the exhibitionist refused to stop and move before he was shot. Police arrived on the scene shortly after the shooting, and the 75-year-old did not resist arrest. ‘France3’ reported that the shooter was an avid hunter and member of a shooting club who legally possessed a caliber .22 rifle. Even though the weapon was legally registered, his permit does not allow him to carry the weapon around in public freely.

“The shooter was examined by doctors on Saturday evening to determine whether his age may preclude him from being taken into custody, but he was ultimately declared fit by medical personnel and detained, " the Daily Mail.  The Miribel regional prosecutors added, “The 75-year-old is suspected of shooting the victim multiple times in the bushes nearby following a dispute that arose after the younger man allegedly exposed himself in front of a woman.”

This problem started because of the quintessential ethical and philosophical differences between naturism and exhibitionism. Naturism is a lifestyle of practicing non-sexual social nudity in public and in private. Exhibitionism is a kink and fetish often negatively judged because it can be perceived as threatening when it’s non-consensual. This is a feeling familiar to naturists who are victims of exhibitionists and voyeurs who take advantage of nudism for sexual gratification.

“When it comes to a vegetarian vs meat eater, the line that divides the two couldn’t be more clear. I feel the same way about a nudist vs. an exhibitionist because the [nudist] lifestyle is not exactly mainstream, and there are many that do not have accurate information to decipher between the two… Exhibitionism is a mental condition characterized by the compulsion to display one’s genitals in public. It falls under a category of psychiatric sexual disorders known as ‘paraphilias.’ Paraphilias are a group of mental disorders marked by obsession with unusual sexual practices…Exhibitionists usually do not attempt to make literal sexual contact with their victims. The intent is to expose themselves in a non-threatening manner to elicit the non-aroused attention of others for shock value, but there are exhibitionists whose main intent is sexual in nature, and their actions are perceived by victims as threatening. Nudists just want to be nude. If they like to be with others, it’s because humans are social creatures. Nudism has nothing to do with sexual gratification but rather the simple belief that the nude is better. While I have never experienced exhibitionism in the clothed world, I have (unfortunately) come across it in a nudist setting.”

Naturism is a cultural movement that advocates for and defends the nudism lifestyle. The terms naturism and nudism are interchangeable, but nudism emphasizes the practice of nudity. In contrast, naturism “highlights an attitude favoring harmony with nature and respect for the environment, into which that practice is integrated.” The XIV Congress of the International Naturist Federation (INF) held at Agde, France, in 1974 defined naturism as:

“…a way of life in harmony with nature characterized by the practice of communal nudity with the intention of encouraging self-respect, respect for others and the environment.”

Organizations emerged and have been promoting social nudity and establishing private campgrounds and resorts since the turn of the 20^th century. People who don’t necessarily identify as nudists or naturists have been casually participating in nude activities since the 1960s. Naturists and nudists must advocate the practice of social nudity and disassociate it from sexual activity.

The International Naturist Federation explained the relationship between naturism and sexuality.

“Each country has its own kind of naturism, even each club has its own special character, for we too, human beings, have our own character which is reflected in our surroundings.”

In the United States, the terms naturism and nudism mean the same thing. Still, In Great Britain and much of Europe, there is a clear distinction made to emphasize that nudism is a practice while naturism is an ethical philosophy and lifestyle.

These benefits and the freedom that leads to them are why naturalists and nudists have no tolerance for people who disrespect their values and beliefs since it tarnishes a lifestyle based on respect for self and others. So, how can we know who is a naturist or nudist and who is an exhibitionist when everyone is naked?

According to blogs and articles on the matter, exhibitionists are neither discreet nor subtle in the nudist community. Nudist resorts, with the support of the American Association of Nude Recreation (AANR) and The Naturist Society (TNS), have a zero-tolerance policy for exhibitionist behavior and will throw out anyone that does not “uphold the standards of the nudist lifestyle.”

However, we’re not talking about consensual, sexy exhibitionism in this context. This man isn’t a porn star fantasizing about his fans watching him fuck. I am not suggesting his murder was warranted, but this man didn’t get shot because he was an exhibitionist. He was shot dead because he disrespected a community by illegally playing with his dick in public while threatening and intimidating a nudist who was trying to enjoy a sunny Saturday at the beach.
