Germans are well-known for their love of kink, sex, and nudity.
Fact: Prostitution is legal in Germany.
Fact: Around 40,000 sex workers are registered under the Prostitution Protection Act, which protects sex workers’ access to benefits such as health care and unemployment insurance.
Fact: Because registering means handing over their real name, address, and contact details, 90% of sex workers in Germany are not registered and work illegally.
Fact: Germany has an estimated 400,000 sex workers (registered and unregistered).
Fact: Brothels also have to be registered.
Because of the coronavirus pandemic, prostitutes were banned from doing their job for six months. All of Germany’s states imposed a ban on sex work, and suddenly, brothels, red-light districts, and other fun clubs were -officially- closed.
Many of the sex workers in Germany come from other countries. According to the European Network for the Promotion of Rights and Health Among Migrant Sex Workers (TAMPEP), the number is nearly 65%. It is common for (mostly) women of developing countries where prostitution is illegal to move to Germany to enjoy the protection a more liberal culture and society can provide. It is easier for sex workers to be taken advantage of when they have to hide from the police and general society to work. They face a much higher risk of getting in trouble or having health problems.
But even outside prostitution, sex and nudism are commonplace everywhere in Germany. Nudism is particularly popular in rural areas and on beaches. It is considered a lifestyle, and they call it Freikörperkultur (FKK), which translates as "free body culture.”
Germany has much tolerance for nudity. Hundreds of spas and wellness resorts, parks, lakes, and beaches are known for being popular with the FKK. Of course, nudism isn’t “erotic” or “kinky,” but it does help set the stage and helps understand Germany’s mentality and general attitude about sex.
Except for violent, animal, or child pornography, porn is legal in Germany. According to Pornhub, German visitors love German porn! The top two terms are ‘German’ and ‘Deutsch,’ the most viewed category is ‘German,’ and in 2021, ‘Deutsch amateur’ searches grew by +308%. On top of that, German visitors are +1167% more likely to view the German category than the rest of the world. Germans are also +214% more into Big Ass and +146% more into Bisexual Male.
Since 2004, an annual fetish exhibition has been held in Germany called The German Fetish Ball. The festival lasts for three days and includes parties and merchandise exhibits. This year it was held in Berlin, a notoriously naughty city. There are numerous clubs that are famous for hosting hedonistic parties where nobody cares about what anyone else is doing. It’s normal to see people having sex right next to you. You could take a crash course in extreme German sexuality at the Lab.oratory, a perverse sex club located in an abandoned power station in Berlin. This hedonistic fantasyland is located on the main level of Berghain, Europe’s top techno club, which hosts the world’s most affluent DJs. Whether you’re looking to experiment sexually or are vanilla at heart, the Lab.oratory is a must, epitomizing the spirit of Berlin’s excessive nightlife.
So, I guess the real question is, are you adding Germany to your sex-party travel plans? Would you travel to stay in a nudist community for a few days or to Berlin and participate in the Fetish Ball?
