Hentai, Bukakke, Tsubashanpu: Kinky Japan, Part 1

EDITORIAL FEATURES

If you’ve ever been to Japan, you have seen that their policy of Isolationism and aversion of western ideologies has created a unique culture that is, on purpose, unlike any in the world. The sex culture of modern Japan is not the exception.

In the United States, religion has played a huge part in how we understand sexuality since it is generally viewed as inherently sinful if it isn’t for reproduction.

This is not the case in Japan. In fact, to the ancient Japanese, such a concept would seem completely ridiculous. Japan’s indigenous religion, Shinto, is based on animism with a belief that supernatural beings dwell in nature. One of their oldest myths is an example of why our bodies are not seen as something wrong, bad, or shameful. To them, and me, sex is a part of nature; an action that brings love, pleasure, joy, and even life.

Gods and goddesses in Shinto are called kami. The myth says that the last generation of kami born from the divine universe’s energy, were Izanagi Okami and Izanami Okami. They were also the very first kami who got married.

According to the myth, Izanagi Okami famously pointed out that he has something “extra” but Izanami Okami has something “less,” and that something good might happen if his “extra part” would compliment the part she did not have. This is how the two kamis are said to have discovered sex.

The two kami were able to create many children including the islands of Japan and the millions of kami that live there. Japanese people, even the most religious, view sexuality as an innate part of life itself. Therefore, religious attitudes are no obstacle to the presence of pornographic material in Japanese society.

The history of sexuality in Japan is incredibly interesting. But the result of that history is fascinating. The nature and level of kink in Japan is unparalleled so let’s get to it.

Fact: In Japan, the distribution of child pornography became illegal in 1999 in response to increasing international pressure from the United Nations, UNICEF, and other organizations. Possession of child pornography depicting real children became illegal in 2014. Still today, it’s not really taboo for people to watch what I would describe as “animated child pornography.”

Fact: There are still a lot of common fetishes in Japan that involve (most frequently) animated children and even babies.

Zettai Ryokiu is a famous fetish known by many anime fans that refers to the bare skin between a girl’s knee socks and short skirts. Even though this schoolgirl fantasy is very common around the world, the girls in the hentai videos I watched looked so young, it made me cringe.

Bebigyaru fetishists are turned on by diaper-wearing, teetering, and drinking out of baby bottles.

Fact: There are more reported cases of sexual abuse of minors in the US than in Japan.

That’s as much as I’m going to say about that, so sit down, get comfortable and enjoy the many unique, niche kinks Japanese people love and have started, with the increasing popularity of tube sites, to share with the world.

Hentai is a world-wide phenomenon. It literally means “abnormal sexual desire or act.” Seeing as it’s the most searched word in Pornhub, I’m sure we’re all familiar with the explicit manga-style comics. What’s interesting is the themes which can range from schoolgirls to tentacle sex.

Tentacle erotica would be more precisely translated as tentacle violation or tentacle rape, and it integrates elements of bestiality and a fantasy, horror, or science-fiction theme. The earliest examples of this fantasy were woodblock prints from the 1780s depicting women being violated by octopi. So far, is this sounding like a fantasy or a nightmare? I honestly couldn’t resist the curiosity and had to look up videos to understand what is erotic about tentacles.

In the video I found, which was animated, this very young-looking girl was bound with tentacles around her wrists and ankles. This bigger tentacle was crawling up her legs using the suction to tease and excite her. So far, so good.

The tentacle slid in between her legs, not inside her vagina, and was using it’s “chupones” to create suction and pressure around her labia and clitoris. She was squirming in pleasure as my curiosity started to become an “understanding.” But then the foreplay was over and the violation element of the fantasy kicked in. One of the tentacles, which honestly looked like ever extending penises, penetrated the girl’s mouth while another penetrated her vagina but she was struggling trying to stop the tentacles as she screamed and cried.

It was the screaming in pain while huge glittery tears dripped down her face that made me realize how much of a niche kink this is.

Please note that there is a lot of tentacle erotica that doesn’t portray any simulated violence or violation, and I may or may not be watching more.

Fun fact: Japan censors genitals in porn so the girl’s vagina was pixelated but the penis-resembling tentacles weren’t. Just imagine how much fun Freud would have trying to analyze that.

Bukkake started in Japan in the 1980s but has made its way into mainstream straight and gay porn. It’s basically an act in which one participant is ejaculated on by multiple participants. The word bukkake is used in Japanese to describe when you’re pouring something, and it causes a splash. In tsubashanpu, one man lies on the ground and has hundreds of girls spit in his face. A lot of psychologists describe these as “some of the most degrading acts in porn” but that is definitely intended as a criticism and totally disregards the fact that there’s consent and that some people like being humiliated.

Of course, this is “kink shaming.” It’s definitely not my cup of tea but as long as there’s consent, to each their own. This literally didn’t even scratch the surface of the many Japanese kinks I had never even heard about so, thank you for your attention and stay tuned for part 2 which will be posted tomorrow.
