Sex Work Is Real Work
After the massively used platform used by porn stars to directedly reach their fans OnlyFans decided last week that they no longer wanted to be in the porn business, OnlyFans has apparently reversed that decision....for now.
In a Twitter statement that they say will be followed up by an official company email to all of the site's many sex worker creators, Only Fans stated, "Thank you to everyone for making your voices heard. We have secured assurances necessary to support our diverse creator community and have suspended the planned October 1 policy change. OnlyFans stands for inclusion and we will continue to provide a home for all creators."
Whether porn stars will stay with a platform that found them and their money so easy to dump in the first place remains to be seen but at least the many sex workers who have made this company a ton of money in the past can take their time a bit more to move their content to new platforms rather than have the October 1st deadline that they were given to work with.
The complete reversal comes one day after OnlyFans founder Tim Stokely attempted to pin this poorly received decision on opposition his company faced from banking service providers and credit card companies. Bank of New York Mellon Corp. “flagged and rejected” wire payments tied to the company, “making it difficult to pay our creators,” Stokely said in an interview with the Financial Times. “This decision was made to safeguard their funds and subscriptions from increasingly unfair actions by banks and media companies — we obviously do not want to lose our most loyal creators,” Stokely also said in that interview.
OnlyFans' attempted ban on hardcore content happened during the very same week that the company did a hard launch of OFTV, their attempt at a new streaming service with no hardcore content that was presumably built with money made off of their platform's sex worker content. OFTV is free to view and available as an app for devices including Android, iOS, Roku and Apple TV, among others. This platform is not available to anyone producing hardcore content with OnlyFans because the streaming services listed about don't allow hardcore content at all.
There is a saying I have heard about not keeping your ex's photo in your wallet and well, I personally can't encourage porn stars and sex workers who have created for OnlyFans in the past to dump these fuckers at OnlyFans enough.
If they only want you for your money, they really don't want you at all. You are more than the cash you can give these people who don't care about your livelihood, your families, your financial stability, your unflagging creativity and your limitless future.
