Dr. Charla Hathaway Is Out To Slay Shame and Stigma Over at PinkLabel.TV

Hey there smut lovers! I’m bringing you something entirely different today. There’s no scenes of hardcore fucking, not even a stray naked boob. Closest you’re going to get is someone your Mom’s age prancing around in lingerie, taking a bath, and telling stories that, while they’re kind of salacious, aren’t hardcore either, really. Why am I writing about it here? Well, it’s awesome, that’s why.

This film, available on PinkLabel.TV stars Austin-based author, speaker, and intimacy coach Dr. Charla Hathaway in her one woman show entitled Tales of Sex Magic And Healing. I’m a big fat hippie witch and I’ve been interested in sacred sexuality and sexual healing for years so this film was something I was very interested in seeing when I heard it was available for us to write about. I’ve been to events where people served in the role of temple prostitute, sacred whore, whatever the term is that you’re most comfortable with and facilitated sexual release and exploration in a safe, consensual place. Dr. Charla’s work is along these lines. In her sessions, she helps people through their sexual traumas and even just helps them experience something new and get through fear and repression. She makes a point to say that she teaches people to be better receivers in bed, when many come to her to learn how to give more or improve their technique. I found this film inspiring and well, porn exists because we are so curious as humans about sex. It’s a natural drive and something that should not inspire shame. Dr. Charla is out to remove shame about sex and help people be fulfilled and empowered sensual, sexual beings and she just rocks.

Sex is more than just fun, not just for the young and fit, and definitely more than means of reproduction and for heteros only (fuck you, Catholic school!), it is one of the ways we connect as human beings. Not the only way, of course, my ace homies, you’re awesome too, but it is a very nuanced experience. I’ve had amateur experience helping people talk about their sexual issues. I’ve taken people’s various “virginities” (fuck the entire concept of virginity tho), I’ve helped a dear friend take sexy pictures for a long distance partner. I’m rapidly becoming that friend that’s done everything you’ve done sexually three times, and once with a goat (I’ve never actually been with a goat unless you count The Great God Pan) and people are comfortable discussing overtly sexual topics with me. I am honored by those experiences. Many things, including this movie, have been poking at my brain and telling me maybe I am cut out for this type of work also. Who knows what the future holds, but I found this film very inspiring, and at times humorous (there’s a penis sock puppet, y’all) and you should watch it!
