Checking In with AVN Niche Performer of the Year Karla Lane

AVN Hall of Famer Karla Lane won the AVN Award for Niche Performer of the Year at the recent AVN Awards Show and this sweet, smart and curvy lady is promising to give us all another great year of her porno doings. Here is what she had to say about the trophy and the world that she lives in.

Hello, Karla! How are you? How are you doing?

"I’m doing great! I’m enjoying a lot of home activities, like gardening and playing with chickens - and more Netflix binging than I’d like to admit."

Congrats on winning AVN's Niche Performer of the Year award! How did it feel taking that trophy?

"It was a total surprise! The past year was so unique dealing with COVID and figuring out how to safely film. It was a challenging year and I was excited to capture some amazing moments on film and even be awarded for my work."

What do you love most about niche/fetish porn as a whole?

"It’s the type of thing where almost anything goes. You can really let your hair down and get creative, be yourself or someone totally different for a day. There aren’t as many set rules and expectations with niche - you can really shoot what and how you want with it."

What goals do you have for yourself for your porn career in the coming year?

"COVID’s still a big issue, so I’m still focused on working very safely around that and keeping those close to me safe. I’m taking the best opportunities I can and working on my own projects. I’m also collaborating with other models I’ve developed a COVID pod with."

What do you plan to do with the platform that being a performer of the year gives you?

"Just continuing to be a safe, fun performer. I’m always just me on set - body positive, fun and smiling. That’s never going to change."

We are in some very interesting, challenging times. How has it been creating fantasies for people in the middle of a pandemic?

"It is such a challenge! Working with people who are on the same page makes it so much easier, though! We all have the same goals in mind, so everything just flows."

On your Twitter profile, you say that you would like to be called plus sized, not BBW. Why is that?

"BBW is just a dated term. Plus sized is just what things are. You don’t go to the BBW section of a store for a shirt - you go to the plus-size section. It’s a descriptor and not a Fetish. Plus sized can be applied to any person, any gender identity. It’s more inclusive."

What would you teach people about body positivity, if you could only give them one lesson to take home?

"Everybody is a body. Each body you see is a person, with a heart and feelings that deserve love and respect. Self love also is very important!"

What is coming up for you? What should your fans be on the lookout for?

"I don’t have anything specific lined up right now. I’ve been busy with lots of projects. But there’s always more coming! One thing I’m excited about is possibly a road trip to Alaska with my partner and maybe filming it!"
