Want to download photos of fully-clothed porn stars or Playboy models to your cellphone? You won't be able to do it through Cingular any more: according to a company spokesman quoted in the New York Times today, "We're not going to offer adult content ... That is not compatible with the Cingular brand." However, photos of partially clad Sports Illustrated swimsuit models are still available via Cingular—as well as from Sprint and Verizon—despite the professed reluctance on the part of all three carriers to distribute "sex-oriented content". So what's the distinction? "A Playboy brand or Penthouse brand - those do not meet our requirements" said a company representative for Sprint. "Sports Illustrated and Maxim do." Er, OK! (We've always thought that boobies by any other name are still boobies—but hey, what do we know?)
