BBC Goes to Porn Valley

EDITORIAL FEATURES

In one of the most staggeringly hackneyed pieces of investigative journalism we've seen this year (all three days of it), the BBC sends reporter David Willis to Porn Valley where he sits in on a real, live porn shoot, talks to two actual porn actors, takes a half hour to come up with a hilariously clever fake name ("Dirk Diggler"!) to use on a model release for an extra part that never materializes, and rehashes an eight month old story on the adult industry's HIV crisis when it becomes apparent that he doesn't have anything particularly illuminating or original to say about his subject. Yes, making porn can be a depressingly mundane enterprise, and there are health risks involved. Next?

Update While conceding that the British press is "notorious for mis-quoting, mis-representing, and just flat out making up shit", Kurt Lockwood responds to AIM director Sharon Mitchell's quotes in the BBC article: "Until Ms. Mitchell either denies or clarifies her insulting comments, should we be giving her our hard-earned money (you know, the money made with 'handfuls of Viagra and Hi-8 cameras'?) Or should we be demanding more respect from someone who takes our money and without us would NOT be being interviewed by the British press and therefore NOT be able to make these insipid remarks? I therefore call on Ms. Mitchell to answer for these ridiculous, untrue comments and if she truly has this low opinion of us than she should stop being a HYPOCRITE, stop taking our money, and resign to let somebody run AIM who has a higher opinion of her 'bread and butter' clinetele." (Adult FYI)

Meanwhile, Hardcore Gossip takes us to task for being too soft on the BBC in our post: "Fleshbot calls the article 'hackneyed' which I consider to be going easy on them. I call it insipid, banal, uninspired, and insultingly typical of a mainstream portrayal of the adult film industry." Actually, we meant to say all that too, but we were worried about running out of space. (hardcoregossip.com)
