Legendary punk rock historian Legs McNeil tackles the last half century of porn culture in the United States in "The Other Hollywood", a massive undertaking which seeks "to capture pornography in all its hilarity and horror, to tell the story of America's obsessive love/hate relationship with sex through the voices of those who embodied it" from the early days of girlie films and nudist reels to its status as a $10 billion a year industry. Readers hoping for a series of cheap thrills may be disappointed, however; says McNeil, "This book is really a woman's book. It isn't titillating in the erotic sense. It's about bad relationships." We can hardly wait for its release on March 1.
