Porn Valley Dispatch: 2006 AVN Award Nominations

"I'd like to win Best New Starlet," Joanna Angel tells us. "I think that's every porno girl's dream come true." Angel and 14 other women (including Sunny Lane, Tory Lane, and Vanessa Lane—no relation) have been nominated for AVN's coveted newcomer award, to be presented this January in Las Vegas. In addition to three film stock divisions (video, film, and so-called "high-definition"), AVN will present awards in over 100 often-overlapping categories. Despite the trade magazine's financial need to please as many advertisers as possible, certain folks got overlooked, like Friend of Fleshbot Eon McKai. Only in the adult industry are publicists tolerated as source material (other than Tom Cruise's sister, who we adored)—so it should be no surprise that several awards are being presented for marketing, including All Media Play's "The Selling of Britney Rears 2005".

As was predicted, Digital Playground/Adam & Eve's "Pirates", New Sensations' "Dark Angels 2", and Ninnworx' "Catherine" all received Best Picture nominations, and numerous head-scratchers appeared on the list—countered, of course, by all the critical and/or sales faves that were omitted. In the end, only AVN's inner sanctum knows what went into the awards nominations process. (Legal constraints restrict certain parties from talking openly about intrigue in the nominations room, but here's a little peek.)

The adult industry will now endure a month-long germination period in which Vegas hotel rooms are booked, parties are planned and abandoned, contract stars are jettisoned, and people begin looking for rides to Nevada. (Ed. note: It's like waiting for Christmas, only with, like, boobies!)
