"(Eon McKai's) 'Art School Sluts' was my first film and you can see how nervous I was," Porn Valley heartthrob James Deen says. "But you can also see my progression from there."
I talked with Deen on the set of Hustler's "Da Vinci Load", the world's only truly appropriate response to Dan Brown's book. I was under the impression that Deen only worked with McKai and the Steveporn crowd, but he's done about 500 scenes over the course of his year-plus career thus far.
"It's that my fan-base is mostly from Eon's movies that everyone thinks that," Deen said. More on the guy whose job you wish you had after the gap.- G. Ponante

Deen was 17 and attending community college in Pasadena when he decided to try to get into porn. "I thought, 'I'll try meeting some Hollywood girls—they all have porn connections.' And they did."
Deen was put in touch with porn eldress Pamela Peaks, who took a professional interest in him after he sent her some pictures. "Before that, she was kind of rude," Deen said. Together they brainstormed names, one of which was Clint Cullingus, before they settled on "James Deen".
After getting listed with Van Nuys porn clearinghouse World Modeling, McKai cast him in 2004's Eon McKai's "Art School Sluts". "No one wanted me because I was 18 and they thought I'd come too early or not be able to perform on camera," he said, "So if you look at that movie, I don't know all the porn camera tricks."
A seasoned veteran of the industry at age 20, Deen knows already that he doesn't want to go the tranny route of Nacho Vidal, engaging in thrill-seeking behavior when the ladies of Porn Valley cease to excite him. "It's more about the physical discomfort," he said. And no one goes into porn to be uncomfortable.
