While our illustrious editor was making the rounds of the GayVN Awards and its attendant afterparties, the straight porn world came together for an evening of reflection and regrouping.

The occasion was the release of Sex Z Pictures' "The Decline of Western Civilization Part 69: The Porno Years" featuring straight/gay crossover star Kurt Lockwood. Images from the movie played on several screens while a couple of thousand people drank for free at L.A.'s Knitting Factory.

The event was put together by AllMediaPlay, a company that handles publicity, image management, and event planning for adult clients. AllMediaPlay gets all the credit for the creation of Britney Rears and will regularly throw parties of this magnitude, each with red carpets ringed by sullen guys with camera phones.

Strict anti-sausage edicts were made clear throughout the week preceding the party. California's sweeping Anti-Sausage Party laws, the strictest in the country, designate a gathering to be a sausage party when 65 percent of the attendees are male (Federal law sets the mark at 85 percent). It was 64.8 percent male at the Knitting Factory. Who says the adult industry can't regulate itself?

After a while, these parties lose their novelty. It's good to see friends, but one must navigatee around "spontaneous" floor events. When the lights from the cameras of cable access shows turn on, porn girls get to work, grabbing fistfuls of each other and giving each other side licks while looking at the camera. "I'd rather be drinking," one starlet told me, "but I'm paid to be here."

Knowing that the straight world's priorities are in place, I left.
