By the time we were introduced to Wonder Woman through the "Superfriends" cartoon, we guess folks older and wiser than we were had already figured out the historical subtext of the original—because we sure didn't think "Oh, she's obviously a covert representation of bondage fetishism." But it turns out, of course, that that's exactly what the character was all about (come to think of it, the Lynda Carter live action version was sorta kinky too); as this ginormous collection of bondage-themed comic book covers will attest to, there was some serious repression going on back in the middle of the twentieth century. Then again, maybe sometimes a picture of Wonder Woman strapped to a phallic-shaped floating buoy thingie in the middle of the ocean is just ... well, browse through the collection and judge for yourself.
