DVD Review: “Jack’s Playground 31”

With all the new product Digital Playground is releasing these days it was a welcome surprise, like Harry Dean Stanton watching his brother roll into his yard on a tractor, to see a good old fashioned "Jack's Playground" show up.

What's more, this edition features ghosts from D.P.'s past—as well as Jana Cova, the Czech of the Future. Read our review after the gap.

What with Rocki Roads no longer in the adult biz lo these past five years and Devon officially no longer a contract star, this Special XXX Superstar Edition of the venerable "Jack's Playground" series feels like old home week. That so much content can be shot and retained and—unless I'm mistaken—repackaged is what keeps the porn world thriving despite these lean, no increase in the minimum wage times.

The ubiquidicked Scott Nails starts things off with an introduction of sylphlike Bianca Pureheart. The conceit of this series is that "Jack" is getting away with something by auditioning women unscrupulously. In this case it is a music video. You can imagine where it goes from there. Pureheart, aptly named, is very, very pale.

"But Jana—you have fish and turtles," protests Jack in the next scene, featuring a lonelyhearts Jana Cova.

"I'm hornier than hell," she admits, and then does something about it. She slakes her horniness on a glass pane a la Sophia Santi, Digital Playground's other girls-only star, in "Deeper".

Devon is back, post-contract, to shoot a scene with pool guy Tommy Gunn. Devon is delicious and is the ultimate So Cal porn star. I say these obvious things because I have only seen her in glossy movies in which she doesn't speak. Here she improvises the classic porn setup.

I miss Devon, and I never even knew her.

A shower scene between Isabella and Jana follows a nasty bit of business with Taryn Thomas. Thomas, like Hillary Scott, can travel between the higher-glam worlds of Digital Playground fare and those of JM Productions and other edgier producers.

Rocki Roads appears, all late-90's-like, in the time capsule section. It is a nice archive, what with Devon and Jana Cova and all, for people curious to see what porn looked like a few years ago. Good pornn, I mean, reflecting the prevailing view of what people liked surrounding their boobies.

Finally, Jasmine Byrne takes us back to the present day. She's very cute, bendy, and game; a nice closer to a satisfying collection of odds and ends.
