Fifteen years ago, French artist Jean-Christian Bourcart spent a week sneaking around Franfurt brothels with a camera concealed under his jacket to take pictures of things he wasn't supposed to photograph (= the inside of Frankfurt brothels); he tells us that he also carried a Colt for protection, and that the pimps eventually caught on to what he was doing, though he doesn't mention if things got sticky enough to have to deal with the latter using the former. The result is his "Infertile Madonnas" series, which show us that (surprise!) certain brothels are just as workaday, lurid, depressing, and/or occasionally surreal as you probably think they are. Good thing many of his photos stand as works of art in their own right, else he would've risked pissing off all those angry pimps to show us stuff we already know.
