When artist Amber Hawk Swanson was looking for a way to explore sexuality and feminism, while incorporating her own image to draw lines between reality and fantasy, she came upon a unique solution—paying $12,000 to buy a Realdoll that looks exactly like herself. Thus Amber Doll was born and the pair became the stars of their own on-going performance art piece. Not only has Original Amber filmed a documentary about the process of creating and caring for Fake Amber and not only have they re-enacted famous movie rape scenes for a photographic project, the two of them even got married in Vegas. (In matching dresses, of course.)
We're pretty sure there's a message in here about feminist attitudes of self worth and the objectification of women in our popular culture, but dang it if we aren't having a hard time suppressing our twins fantasy right now. Art or no art, anyone who has a Realdoll of herself is just the kind of kooky cat we want to know.
