2007 European Gay Porn Awards

Billed as the "world's only fully publicly elected" event (even though we've heard something from someone by way of some anonymous source that the upcoming 2007 WeHo XXX Awards sponsored by Rentboy.com also claim to be the "world's only fully publicly elected" gay porn event), this year's European Gay Porn Awards makes the number of GAYVN nominees look positively restrained by comparison: the "Best Overall Picture" category has, count 'em, nineteen nominees while the "Best Twink" Film (ahem, "Film"?) has fourteen. (And things get even more confusing given the fact that the EGPA includes bareback films among its nominees, something the GAYVNs won't touch.) We get that Europeans do like their inclusion, but was their goal was to give every voting member of the European Union a vote? Still, rather than spend all our time criticizing award shows that ultimately don't mean much to anyone except marketing departments, we could be a little more productive and try to determine which "films" deserves the award for "Best Hunk" and "Best Stud" respectively—and then reviewing all twenty-two of them again to determine what exactly makes one a "stud" and another a "hunk".- VH/JD
