Cuba Is Bringing Back Love Hotels

EDITORIAL FEATURES

There's Too Much Public Sex in Cuba, Apparently

Whenever someone talks about Cuba and all the many issues the country has, one issue that is often left out of the conversation is the rise in public sex. Yes, you heard me right, people can't seem to stop letting the passions take them over and doing it wherever and whenever. So, the Cuban government is bringing back posadas, which are state-run love hotels.

Another way to look at it is these posadas are nothing more than their version of hourly hotels. And really the idea isn't all that shocking - besides our love motels, Japan has themed love hotels, and more recently they have been popping up in Central and South America. With a housing shortage in Cuba and the fact that many generations often share an apartment, finding some private space is quite difficult. Throw in a bunch of really romantic beaches and parks in Cuba, and let's just say the loving making in public has gotten a bit out of hand. Hopefully the posadas will curb this new trend.

Under the plan, couples can rent a room decked out with air conditioning, a fridge, and a comfortable bed for about $6.50 for three hours.

Officials say there will be a chain of at least five posadas in Havana that will hopefully encourage couples to move their X-rated activities indoors and away from notorious hook-up spots such as Havana’s Malecon waterfront.

While this is all fine and well, the one issue that might still arise is the cost. Average monthly salary in Cuba is $38.50, so couples will have to save their pennies. Then again, maybe some low-cost posadas will start popping up over time.
