Hawaii Has A Bill in The Works That Would Decriminalize Prostitution

Say Aloha To Safer Sex Work!

The Free Speech Coalition has put its support behind a bill that is working its way through the Hawaiian state legislature that would decriminalize prostitution in the state. HB 1533 would make prostitution legal in the state of Hawaii and it would also nullify any prostitution convictions that have happened in the last three years for any sex workers that were solely convicted of prostitution and not of any other criminal activity.

The organization's policy director Siouxsie Q co-signed a letter to state Judiciary Committee chair, representative Scott Nishimoto where they praise how the bill combats sex trafficking while protecting consenting sex workers and their clients saying HB 1533 is a “meaningful step towards protecting some of the most marginalized workers in our society while maintaining Hawaii’s current sex-trafficking laws that protect victims and ensuring that non-consensual acts that are engaged in by managers remain serious criminal offenses.”

Sex workers are always safer and better off in pretty much every way in places where their work is legal. If you have never checked into the work that the FSC does, visit their website and learn about what they do.
