Though I kind of hate to say this because it makes me sound old, not growing with a cellphone (much less a cellphone with a camera in it) I never much understood the appeal of sending a picture of my dick to a woman. Of course, even if I did grow up with a camera on my phone, I probably still wouldn’t send pictures of my junk to the ladies because . . . why would you do that? Well, one artist decided to take all the random dick pics she received and turn them into art.

Whitney Bell gathered around 200 unsolicited dick pics that she and other women have received, framed them, and hung them on the wall for an art show she is calling: "I Didn't Ask For This: A Lifetime of Dick Pics.”

You probably have a few question stirring in your head and Bell sat down with Vice to talk about her dick pic art show so hopefully you will find some answers, like what inspired her to do this?

"It all sort of began with a really beautiful dick shadow picture I was sent by a guy I was seeing. I sent it to one of my friends who said, 'That picture is so beautiful, it should be in a museum.' That's when I thought of having a gallery of dick pics."

How often do dudes really send her pictures of their one-eyes trouser snake?

"About four years ago, I had a ridiculous prank pulled on me, and for months, I was getting unsolicited dick pics from private emails. I thought I had some weird porn virus or something. Finally, after four months of this, I was visiting my friend in San Francisco, and she asked if I had been getting any weird emails and I was like, 'Funnily enough, yes I have.' Turns out any time a man had asked her for a sexy picture on OkCupid, she said, 'pic for pic,' and sent them my email address. That's definitely what sort of spurned my hatred for the dick pics. But I don't have any of those photos anymore; I deleted those emails immediately."

And why does she think dudes like to send pictures of their downstairs?

"It's really what I thought it would be. All harassment. It's not about sex. It's about power. It's about these guys wanting to exert that control. These guys, they get off knowing that they forced some girl to see it. They know that girl is not going to turn around and say, "Let's go on a date." It's not a pick up. It's like screaming at a woman from a car. You're just doing this because you can, and because the world has taught you that that's OK."

So there you have it. If you are fan of dick pics, perhaps you should rethink a lot of things in your life, but also think twice before pushing send on the next image of your bishop in a turtleneck because it might end up on a wall some day. Someone has to like dick pics, though, right? Right?
