I just watched Cameron Diaz’ and Jason Segel’s new movie SexTape and it got me thinking about the whole sex tape making craze that is now a part of our society - a lot of it thanks to celebrities using it as a vehicle to further their careers (I’m looking at you Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian). It’s not that sex tapes are a new thing, I mean, people have been making private sex tapes for as long as home video cameras existed. However, call me paranoid, but in this internet-fueled, sensational-loving world that we live in now, making a sex tape these days is risky business if you don’t want it to get out to the public.
Just to be clear, if making a sex tape with your partner and then putting it up on user generated porn sites is your thing, then go forth and hit record!
All the more power to ya!
But for those of us who just want to get kinky with the video camera and not want to have it accidentally uploaded to the cloud to be shared with family / friends / the world, hitting record comes with a whole lot of thought beforehand. Or that we now live in a world where ‘revenge porn’ is a thing - so much so that it can actually ruin a woman’s life. Isn’t there any sacredness left in having loud, noisy, showy sex and taping it to watch later any more? I mean, is nothing untouchable?I’m not saying that I don’t trust my partner.
I’m pretty sure he doesn’t want his hairy derriere out in the world wide web any more than I want it there. But my paranoia lies in everyone else. Not that I’m a celebrity anywhere else other than in my own imagination, mind you. But I still worry. Because if I ever lose my phone, and I have some hot nekkid selfies of myself on there, the person who stole my phone won’t waste a minute to pass that around / post it up on the internet. If I send my laptop for repair and it has any sexy videos on it, I fear that a computer technician might find it and then upload it to a user generated porn site. Because at the end of the day, the person doing the distributing gets almost no repercussions instead the person in the photo or video (usually the woman) bears the burden.
And as much as I love attention, this isn’t the kind I’m craving. This is also why almost all sexy parties have banned the use of phones (because of the camera function), because at the end of the day people (#NotAllPeople) don’t respect other people’s right to privacy. It’s not that I have not taped a sex video in my time - it’s just that I deleted it immediately after. Which is sad, because I would be down to shooting a full blown porno if it were up to me. I love looking at myself having sex.
Hah! And with the option of lighting and video cameras available for cheap, I would make a damn good sex tape. I just don’t trust the world to allow me to have my privacy. There should be harsher laws for people who distribute private sex tapes - whether for profit or revenge. Although, once something is out on the internet, there is no stopping it.
And after that, no amount of repercussion for the distributor is worth it.I suppose, just like in the movie Sex Tape, the only other option is to own up to ones freaky side and wear it like a badge of honor. What do you think?
