A Field Guide To Scout Willis

Last week, Scout Willis made news with a topless protest on the streets of New York City. For those who haven't been paying attention, it may have seemed strange to see the child of Bruce Willis and Demi Moore suddenly parading around the street's of the greatest city in the world sans top--but for those of us who'd been following along the whole time, it was just a natural step in the evolution of a crush object.

Scout Willis was born July 20, 1991, to Bruce Willis and Demi Moore, who offered up what we consider to be a nudity friendly family environment. In fact, Scout Willis was exposed to the  wonderful world of artistic nudity before she was even born, appearing on the cover of Vanity Fair while still in utero. Though it seems unlikely that that modeling session would have actually had any effect on her developing mind, we're sure that being born to a woman who didn't mind showing her pregnant physique (or her non-pregnant physique, at that) to the magazine reading public probably helped set Scout off on her body positive path.

Scout spent her early years in Idaho (though in Sun Valley, Idaho, specifically, which admittedly is not short on glamour or celebrities); at the age of eight her family relocated to California. During her childhood, she dipped her toes into the well of movie stardom, appearing alongside her parents in "The Scarlet Letter," "Breakfast of Champions," and "Bandits." During her adolescence she disappeared from the limelight, resurfacing during her late teens as a student at Brown University. Which, we should note, is where Scout's story actually gets interesting.

For many of us, college is where we find ourselves; it seems that Brown served as something of a catalyst for Scout -- aka Scout Larue -- Willis. During her college years she reunited with childhood chum Gus Wenner (the son of Rolling Stone's Jann Wenner) and formed folk-rock band Gus and Scout, which gave Scout a taste of a kind of fame different from the one her parents had provided -- and one she found a whole lot more appealing. She also experimented with a bit of modeling, appearing on website StyleLikeU in various photo shoots and a short film for  that was largely notable for its copious shots of her derriere (which, we should note, we wholeheartedly approve of). Oh, and she also started a secret Twitter devoted to discussing many of the seedier aspects of growing up the daughter of two famous movie stars.

Though initially intended to be anonymous, Scout's @BougPunk account didn't do that great a job of protecting her identity, and was quickly outed by Ivy League gossip blog IvyGate. This eventually led to the deletion of the account, but not before Scout revealed a whole bunch of information about her various and sundry hook ups (which, we should note, seemed to occur with members of both sexes), drug experiences, and trips to the waxing parlor. Sure, the Scout that appeared in @BougPunk tweets may have seemed spoiled, classless, and a little bit mean, but we still found the unflinching glimpse it provided into Scout's life to be both eye opening and appealing (and, let's be honest, even more fuel for our crush on her -- who says we can only crush on well behaved nice girls?).

In the wake of @BougPunk, Scout seems to have learned an important lesson about using social media, and now seems determined to use it primarily for good -- especially when good involves the flashing of breasts. Scout's latest social media campaign launched last week, after Instagram's no nipples policy pushed her buttons one too many times. 

For those who didn't follow along at home, Scout found herself on the wrong side of Instagram's content policy after posting a picture of a jacket adorned with two topless women (this jacket, specifically). This, combined with past infractions (apparently involving images of nipple revealing clothing), led Instagram to ban Scout's account (as, we should note, they have done with quite a few adult entertainers, too). Infuriated by the censorship, Scout launched her now infamous Twitter campaign, which featured photos of Scout baring her breasts on the streets of New York City, as a way to remind readers that Instagram denies female users rights that are afforded to them by the NYPD (and, we should note, a few other cities as well, but that's a bit of a topless friendly tangent). So, to recap: in twenty plus years, Scout's gone from celebrity fetus to child actor to wild child to nudity activist. We're not sure where she'll end up next, but we know we'll be watching. Hey, chances are good that wherever she goes, we'll get to see nudity, right?
