Paul Raymond is somewhat of a mythical figure in the history of naughty Britain. He went from being a switchboard operators/black market salesman to being the owner and operator of the UK's first strip club, a publisher of many fine softcore porn magazines, and a powerful real estate mogul. Steve Coogan plays him in the biopic "The Look of Love," and it's in theaters right now!
Little neat fact about Paul Raymond: before he opened his club, Raymond Revuebar, he used a clever loophole to be able to put naked babes in front of people. At the time, the Lord Chamberlain's Office decreed that nudes could not move on stage, so Raymond put had nudes play statues which were moved around the stage on wheeled podiums!
Who better to play this smart so-and-so than Steve Coogan? And yes, we even think they look alike (when Steve has blond hair, that is). "The Look of Love" hits select theaters today, but if you're feeling too hungover from Independence Day to get off the couch, you can always pick the film up July 7th on iTunes and On Demand with your fancy TV powers. We wholeheartedly recommend it; it's not everyday you get to learn about the rise of a successful smutlord and pioneer like Paul Raymond!
