The mainstream adult industry is burdened by a negative feedback loop: frustrated by a lack of diversity and creativity, consumers lose interest in paying for porn; panicked by dropping profits, producers double down and create more of the same old porn that's been proven profitable for years. Consumers complain that no one's catering to their specific desires--but without a demonstrated market for new niches, producers have little incentive to get experimental. But what if there was a way to break the cycle?
From what we can tell, that's the idea behind Offbeatr, an adult industry-focused crowd funding site. Like Kickstarter, IndieGoGo, and other sites of that ilk; Offbeatr encourages producers to submit project descriptions and consumers to show their support, and help the projects get the funding they need to go from dream to reality. (Unlike Kickstarter and IndieGoGo, Offbeatr requires proposed projects to receive a certain number of votes from the public before doing any actual fundraising--we're not sure the reason for this double show of support, but it's something to be aware of if you're passionate about a project.) [EDIT: A look at the FAQ reveals that projects cannot currently accept funding because Offbeatr is still hashing out their payment processing, presumably this is the reason for the current voting system.]
Right now, Offbeatr doesn't seem to have much of an audience (or that much in the way of submissions), but we're still giddy with excitement over its potential. At long last, all those niches that Porn Valley hasn't been willing to explore might finally have a demonstrated audience...and that furry femdom sploshing porn we've been dreaming of might finally become a reality.
