A Field Guide To Aiden Ashley

When we first saw Aiden Ashley's name on the list of nominees for AVN's Best New Starlet, we sort of (embarrassingly) forgot who she was. We know, it's rude of us, especially when we realized that she's been entertaining us for years, and not only through porn!

Ok, she mostly entertains us through porn, but she's branching out! More on that later.

Aiden Ashley was born on February 28th, 1990 (although we've read Halloween 1988 as well) in Arizona. In her youth, she attended a Catholic high school and "was always a bit of a rebel there." Vague badassery aside, she was an extremely active student: she was on the honor roll, editor of the yearbook, president of the art club, worked in the drama club, she participated in varsity soccer, was captain of varsity cross country and softball, she was on the Junior Olympic softball team, and she organized community service projects. All this goes to show that somebody—maybe not colleges, maybe not prospective employers, but maybe porn bloggers—will see your good deeds and be impressed someday. She attended college (we think Arizona State University) and after a few department changes here and there, she majored in music business and minored in fine art; Aiden also took night classes for music engineering and worked for a big radio station.

Aiden started stripping when she was in college, but after three years of shaking it for Arizonians, she decided that she was sick of the Copper State, so she packed up her stuff and left for Los Angeles. At the time, she had done some catalog/swimsuit/lingerie modeling and was curious about nude photography and film, so the first thing she did in LA was look up talent agencies, find her favorite, and get a contract. She says that she had her heart set on LA Direct, and when she interviewed, they signed her the same day. Aiden tells a better version of this story on her blog:

After a Friday night out in Hollywood my friends came back to my house for drinks. Around 3am I proclaimed that I wanted to be in the adult industry & ran upstairs to get my laptop. I then proceeded to take pictures of myself in the living room & emailed agents them. By noon Saturday I had a meeting and signed with an agent. Sunday I was doing my first shoot. By Monday I had a new career path that I love.

Aiden's first ever time on camera was a girl-girl scene with Celeste Star, and it was a magical time for her. She says that Celeste made her "fall in love with the industry that day (or with her lovely lady parts)" and that she was extremely fortunate to have such a loving and experienced teacher take her porn virginity. She even took and tweeted a picture of the room to commemorate the event! Since she entered the industry (around November 2009), Aidan has only done solo and girl-girl scenes, but there is change on the horizon. Back in July of 2011, famed director Axel Braun announced that Aidan Ashley signed a two-year contract with him that will give birth to several big budget features, her first ever boy-girl scenes, and her first movies working as a director! Aiden once said "I would consider [banging gentlemen on camera] if I got offered a contract where I could pick my male talent and have them tested within 48 hours of the shoot," but she said the offer from Braun was "too juicy to pass." Fact: Aiden Ashley can determine juiciness from a mile away.

Back in 2010, Aiden suffered a serious, career-threatening injury while working for Playboy. No, nothing erotically sinister happened. Aiden tells it best (in a story conveniently posted in the FAQ section of her website):

I am on a show for Playboy TV called 'Badass.' Its a show where we do extreme sports… well, naked. After we got done shooting an episode where we filled a BMX park with 16,000 pounds of snow, I stayed to practice a bit. We went street riding, I decided to get ballsy and go for a 6-stair. My handlebars got squirrelly on the landing and I went flying over them face/jaw first into the concrete. I broke my jaw in three places and fractured it in five. I also knocked out six teeth and chipped almost every tooth in my mouth. I had my mouth wired shut for two months and still [had] to go through two more surgeries to fix the aftermath. Luckily, everything was internal and I was very fortunate it didn't pan out to be a career ending injury.
Being the sick fucks we are, [Richard Avery] and I did a photo shoot one week after I was released from the hospital. I knew we would always regret it if we didn't do a shoot. I mean, how many times do you have the opportunity to do a photo shoot with your face broken?! Check it out, its real… not special effects =)

Badass, indeed. And do you think that's stopped her from enjoying extreme sports? Hell naw. She does it all: snowboard, BMX, FMX, skateboard, cliff jump, silk ropes, trapeze, softball, soccer, cross country, skydive, river rapids, bungee jumping, and more. Aiden sums herself up by saying, "I have a fetish for heights and adrenaline rushes." Sometimes she modifies that statement with, "I'm an over achiever with ADHD that doesn't sleep much, loves music, girls, art, and has adrenaline rush issues."

While she was recovering, Aiden spent her time organizing fundraisers and working on her art. What kind of art? Well, she's been into all sorts of media long before she got that fine arts minor; she mostly works with acrylics, but she notes "I will use anything from nails & wood to dead butterflies, bats, & other creepy crawly creatures." In addition, she also makes her own clothing (her entire feature dancing wardrobe and a bunch of everyday articles as well) and now that she has a fancy new studio in her place, she's making electronic dance music, too.

As a counterpoint to all this productivity and brilliance, we'd like to link to this tweet Aiden Ashley made after she lost a special treat in Disneyland. Nobody's perfect!

Stoner-jabs aside, we love Aiden Ashley. We think she deserves mainstream attention, and although her contortionist cameo on "Chemistry" was a good start, we think she has the potential to be a household name! This year, she's been nominated for both Best New Starlet and Best Group Sex Scene (for an orgy with eighteen other people), and we hope she goes home with a sweet prize in her hands.
