Over the years, we've heard our fair share of stories about people being fired from mainstream jobs after a porno past (or present) was discovered. But we always assumed it was just an example of American prudishness.
How wrong we were: the Vienna State Opera has fired ballerina Karina Sarkissova for posing in the nude. To be fair here, Ms. Sarkissova was fired after a second infraction. When she appeared in the June issue of Penthouse, her company merely warned her not to do it again; it was her September appearance in Austrian men's fashion and lifestyle magazine Wiener that got her fired.
But why is this trangression a firing offense at all? The photos we've seen are classy and tasteful, and if anything, they're likely to boost attendance at the Opera (they've certainly gotten us thinking about the, ahem, "Magic Flute.").
