The Rise Of The Latina Contract Star: Meet Lupe Fuentes And Selena Rose

Is 2010 the year of the Latina contract girl? Perhaps not—but in just one day, we received releases from two major adult studios announcing the signing of Latina contract stars.

First up: Lupe Fuentes has joined Stormy Daniels, jessica drake, Alektra Blue, Kirsten Price, and Kaylani Lei over at Wicked Pictures. For those who don't know Lupe, she's a Colombian/Spanish starlet who came to the States after conquering Spain's adult industry. She also, uh, dates rockstar/pornstar Evan Seinfeld (and if you're ever in a jam, she'll totally come to your rescue).

And over on the other end of the porniverse, we have Digital Playground signing Selena Rose. Wondering who Selena Rose is? So are we: the nineteen-year-old is brand spanking new to the industry, so we don't know too much about her (aside from the fact that she used to work at Hooters). Here's hoping Digital gets her first movie to market soon...we're dying to know more about Selena's, ahem, camera presence.

So, then: two major studios sign two different Latina stars and announce it on the same day. What does it all mean? Is this the beginning of the end of the (largely) lily white nature of porn's contract star system? Perhaps, but we're not going to get too excited just yet. After all, one or two stars of color does not a sea change make (right, Heather Hunter?)—and it still remains to be seen how Lupe and Selena are used by their employers (and whether they're relegated to "Ay Papi!" roles).

But still, for now we're going to choose to be cautiously optimistic. Sure, it's not proof positive that racism in the adult industry has come to an end...but it could be the beginning of something pretty awesome.
