Who Knows What Lurks In The Hearts Of “Pervert”s? Paul Thomas Knows

In a world where ATMs and DPs are relatively commonplace, and nymphomania is a run-of-the-mill malady, what, pray tell, can be seen as true perversion? In his latest release, Paul Thomas offers up a few suggestions.

Because I was not paying close attention to the opening credits of "Pervert," it wasn't until halfway through the film that I realized that "Pervert" was not, in fact, one lengthy feature, but rather two independent vignettes—making this something akin to the "Grindhouse" of porn.

The first tale of perversion is "Grudge Fuck," starring Lily LaBeau, Sarah Shevon, Otto Bauer, and Derrick Pierce. After rejecting the overtures of Derrick, Lily winds up flirting Otto, exchanging banter about what the most sensitive part of the body is (the eyeball!) and what the dirtiest part is (the brain, duh). Lily then lures Otto to the bathroom for a little private time, but—twist!—as soon as they're there, she ends up rejecting him for Derrick, who fucks her good and hard in what has to be LA's cleanest bar bathroom ever.

Otto's naturally frustrated with this turn of events—but the fates are in his favor a few days later, when Lily invites him to spend an evening at her house. But when Otto (who, by the by, is also a peeping Tom, for some random reason) shows up, he finds that Lily's in full domme mode—which, naturally, leads to him getting chained up in the bathroom next to Sarah Shevon, who seems to be Lily's sex slave.

But all's well that ends well, right? And since "Grudge Fuck" ultimately climaxes in a very kinky (and very delicious) threeway involving strapons, anal, DP, and several bejeweled buttplugs, we'd say that things turn out just fine.

Things do not end quite so brightly in "Pervert"'s second vignette, "Robin Hood" (starring Bobbi Starr, Crissy Hines, Samantha Ryan, Eric Swiss, and Anthony Rosano). The focus of the feature this time is Eric Swiss, a criminally inclined sex addict lawyer with a taste for danger and sleeping with his friends' ladies. And how are we first introduced to this character? Why, by seeing him pick up two prostitutes (the lovely Bobbi Starr and Crissy Hines), who he proceeds to pressure into kinky sex acts involving hogtying and stockings over the face.

We're then shuttled to Eric's therapy appointment with therapist, Marian (Samantha Ryan), who features heavily as the object of Eric's affection—as well as his buddy Anthony Rosano's client/crush object. Confused yet? It gets more complicated: scenes of random criminal activity interchange with hot sexual encounters (Bobbi and Crissy are brought back for a fourway with Eric and Anthony; both male leads end up getting freaky with Samantha Ryan). And, seemingly out of nowhere, someone gets shot in the end (but I won't say who!).

Though the story lines are nominally interesting, they're the weakest point of "Pervert," largely because, well, they don't actually make all that much sense. We're not sure why Otto's passion for peeping really matters, and the less said about the complex relationship of friendship and betrayal that seems to exist between Eric and Anthony, the better. (Also? Why the random muggings?) But I'm willing to overlook the odd gaps and confusing twists, because, at the end of the day, we're given enough motivation and drama to make the sex scenes compelling—and, as you might have guessed from the cast list, the sex scenes are stellar.

Also of note: unlike pretty much every porn on the market today, "Pervert" doesn't hew to the standard pacing of two minutes of plot, twenty minutes of sex. The characters are allowed to tease each other: Sarah gives Otto a brief bathroom footjob that doesn't immediately lead to fucking; Anthony and Samantha engage in a delicious scene of panty sniffing voyeurism that doesn't stretch on longer than it needs to. As a result, the pacing feels more natural (and less formulaic), more like a film than a run of the mill porno.

Paul Thomas has been directing porns for quite some time now, and its nice to see that he's still turning out quality work. If you've got a taste for the darker side of sex, you won't want to miss "Pervert." And hey, even if you don't have a taste of those kinky things, check it out anyway: it might just persuade you.
