Porn For Straight Girls: The Wild and Wonderful World of Parody Porn

It's often difficult to find parody porn that isn't a) utterly ridiculous because of the original story it's based on, or b) utterly irrelevant because sex just can't be shoved into the original story. "Bonny & Clide," however, is brilliant.

I know I've said before that I don't necessarily look for a storyline in porn films. I tend to make an exception when judging the quality of parody porn, because the concept of the film itself is based on a story or set of characters. For the parody to be decent, those elements can't be entirely disregarded. They can often make ("Batman XXX") or break ("Seinfeld XXX") a movie-watching experience. Will you laugh, or cringe to the point that your vagina goes into hiding?

"Bonny & Clide" is the kind of story I'd like to see more of in parody porn. It's much more creative than working with a current TV show or film, and the scope of the story encourages a greater depth in the production. Bluebird Films promoted this as a sort of epic, and for good reason; the costuming and sets are lavish, the characters thoughtful, and the cast expansive. Seriously, the number of stars in this film is insane. There are fifty listed on the back of the box alone.

Bonny and Clide, played by Natasha Marley and Paul Chaplin, have great chemistry, and even if the dialogue is a little stiff and the accents keep slipping, they're committed to their roles. Parody porn is always going to be campy, but if the performers aren't into it we can't be into it, and the fucking just won't measure up. Here, we get fun, enthusiastic romps that don't feel overly forced or abrupt. Beyond the titular characters, there is an enormous breadth of scenes, ranging from one-on-one to full orgies, which I love. If you're the kind of person who skips ahead to scenes you feel you'll like the most (I totally do), this is a great film for that. Do you have lawman fantasies? Tommy Gunn is here for that. Do you daydream about group sex in a brothel? They've got you covered.

I talked in my original review about it feeling more like SNL than Lee Roy Myers, and it's true; the story is a little like a joke that everyone is in on. There's no pubic hair, and there are non-period appropriate Chinese character tattoos, and all the performers have a cheeky awareness that they're in a porn version of Bonnie and Clyde's story. So they overplay, and the fucking is interspersed with moments that are more high-school theater than Oscar-worthy, but it makes for a fun watch.

It's difficult to avoid parody porn if you watch a lot of porn, because there's so much of it out there now and most of it, I think, is pretty painful to watch. But don't discount the whole genre, because when it's good, it's very, very good. And definitely worth the time and masturbation.
