FyreTV On Roku: A Match Made In Porno Heaven

FyreTV On Roku: A Match Made In Porno HeavenFyreTV's been delivering streaming porn to your living room for years now, but only if you have their dedicated box. Imagine if Netflix made you buy a dedicated machine instead of just working on any game console or TiVo or Blu-ray player you already have? Well, that's what FyreTV's been like—but thankfully, that's starting to change.

FyreTV has plans to expand to many different platforms, and pretty soon, you'll be starting now, you're able to add FyreTV to your Roku box for free. If you're not familiar, Roku is a very inexpensive box ($59 to $99) that you can watch Netflix, Hulu Plus, Amazon Instant and an assload of other streaming content on. It makes sense for Roku to add as many channels—even adult ones—and it makes sense for FyreTV to get their content on as many devices as possible. There's so much chemistry in this mating that I'm surprised James Deen isn't responsible for it somehow.

How it works

After adding the channel to your Roku lineup, all you have to do is select it, just like any other app, and you're pushed into a basic FyreTV interface. It's a little more thumbnaily and a little less text-y than the standard FyreTV interface, but it works fine. Scrolling around works well with the Roku remote, but typing is as lousy as any other typing you need to do with a remote. Luckily, most performers names are relatively short, so you can get to wanking as soon as possible. Also, there are thumbnails of performers, studios, and genres, if you want to browse that way.

The standard menus are here: New Releases, Newly Added, Highest Rated, and so forth. The favorites and previously watched scenes menus are also synced with your account, so if you start a scene in the living room on a standard FyreTV box, you can load up the same scene on your Roku box in the bedroom and finish your business there.

The one big problem

The one thing that both tube sites and Netflix have figured out is that you need thumbnails when you're fast fwding or rewinding through a scene. Some people skip past the "getting to know you" part of the flick, or past the teasing, or the blowjobs, or the sex and straight to the finishing shot. Others try to find the exact position or angle that they enjoy most, or want to quickly figure out if it exists at all.

If a scene is, say, 30 minutes long, what do you do? Do the BJs start at minute 5? Minute 7? Does the denouement happen at minute 28 and transition immediately out, or does it happen at minute 25, with more lathering and rubbing afterward? That's wasted time spent guessing that could be spent fapping. If I wanted to train my estimation abilities I would go to a carnival and head straight to the jar of jelly beans. Point is, there's no way to do this on a Roku if all you have to go with is the timestamp.

So is it worthwhile?

Overall, even testing on a last-generation (read: slower) Roku, loading menus and playing movies were speedy enough to not interrupt your flow. If you already have a Roku and a FyreTV account, it just makes sense to add this channel to your streaming repertoire. If you're new to FyreTV, you can just use it on something you already own without having to pay more for a dedicated box.
