Why Is There So Much Masturbation On “The Slap”?

We're all pretty well acquainted with nudity on "The Slap," and we thought it had nothing left to write about, but a quick dig through their collection of deleted scenes revealed a bunch of deleted masturbation scenes. Eureka!

So why is (or was) there so much masturbation on "The Slap"? Well, one theory suggests that manual stimulation of the genitals sets up a parallel between the eponymous slap and explores all of the power and importance that hands have. Another theory has to do with the loneliness and self-loathing that surround many of the characters on the show. A third theory is called, "If you touch yourself, the ratings will go up."

Why did they delete some of these masturbation scenes? Not sure. Maybe it's because Melissa George is smoking a joint as she diddles herself.
