New Queer Sex Mags, From Salacious To Ssex Bbox

PORNSTARS

Do you remember Dirty Found? I loved that magazine, a seedy assortment of hidden sexuality; though I think the "joke" was to shame those who had lost the keepsake or private materials of a sordid encounter, the honest beauty of revealing proof or desire of sexual escapades captured my imagination as a youth.

It's sad to see queer magazines die. Publications like $pread Magazine were pivotal resources within sex worker and sex-positive communities I came to discover when I first moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in the late 90's.

On Our Backs Magazine was the first print appearance of baby Jiz Lee; in an article on Shine Louise Houston's newest "The Crash Pad" movie and featuring myself and fellow baby-pornstar Dylan Ryan in a "casting couch" spread. That was back in 2006 and was one of the last issues before the print world fell away.

But perhaps not all is lost? There are a few new sex mags to spring up and why not use this blogging opportunity to share?

Salacious Magazine is now on its 4th issue and going strong. It's a print magazine of queer feminist sex art and literature that aims to meld pornography with high art; comics with erotica; titillation with stunning visuals. Created by KD, the main focus of the magazine are comics, however it also includes written erotica, single spot illustrations and photography.

Dirty Queer Magazine is on it's 4th issue and is a cleanly designed, print-only magazine, published twice a year in Sydney, Australia with a perspective on local and international queer photography, arts and culture. It focuses on in-depth features and photo essays, presenting established and emerging talent with diverse genders, sexes, ages, ethnicities and body types. The magazine is a collectible, building a body of work around queer culture, arts and community.

OP Magazine (OP an abbreviation for "Original Plumbing") is a quarterly publication that documents diversity within trans male lifestyles through photographic portraits and essays, and personal narratives and interviews. Currently at its 9th Issue, it was created by Amos Mac and Rocco Kayiatos, independently published and distributed out of Brooklyn, New York.

Translady Fanzine is collaboration between Zackary Drucker and Amos Mac (of OP Magazine) and, a transwoman and transman, respectively. It's a fine art photographic periodical, and focuses on one woman of trans experience per issue, showcasing vivid photographs of the model as she wishes to be seen, and exclusive text of her experience in her own words; visual proof of contemporary trans existence.

[SSEX BBOX] magazine is the tangible manifestation of the [SSEX BBOX] web documentary series, and seeks to expand consciousness by examining and challenging two dimensional, archaic and obsolete understandings of sexuality and gender.

I also wanted to give a few other shout outs:

Butt Magazine is a pink bible of juicy gay boy goodness. Filament Magazine (RIP -2011) was the best women's magazine on men to date, and while not a periodical, Freeing Ourselves: a Guide to Health and Self Love for Brown Bois by Brown Boi Project is an amazing resource for all masculine of center folks, and the 2012 Brooklyn Boihood Calendar is HAWT.

I happen to have modeled for Issue #2 of [SSEX BBOX], so here's a small gallery from the shoot for the cover image.
