When cartographer Will Shepherd gets sent to Armenia to create a more accurate land survey, he ends up meeting and falling in love with Gadarine Nazarian (Lubna Azabal), and then they do sweet things like swim together and stare in each other's eyes. We wonder: as Gadarine lies back in Will's arms and her body bobs along the surface of the water, does her lover see her as a land mass--as an island? Will he record her topography for the benefit of future generations?
You know, there's a place near San Francisco called Mt. Tamalpais that, when viewed from high vantage points, looks like a woman lying down (there are even fire lookout points on the peaks of her breasts). We'd like to think of Lubna like that, and perhaps her man feels the same way; after all, when you really love someone, you want to shrink down and hike all over their body.
