Netflix Picks: The Titillating Tilda Swinton

Fact: we think Tilda Swinton is a brilliant actor and a straight-up hottie. Second fact: she is quite often naked and/or doing erotic things in her films. Not quite a fact but more of a feeling: we saw a big beautiful tree on the way to work today and its autumnal coloring reminded us of Tilda Swinton's hair, hence this post right here.

1. I Am Love: In a nutshell, "I Am Love" is about Emma (Swinton), a Russian immigrant married into a powerful Milanese family, and her relationship with her son's chef friend, Antonio (Edoardo Gabbriellini). Their affair builds extremely slowly, really piggybacking on the business and family connections the people around them make, but you can tell it's coming together the first time Emma dines at his restaurant and is served a beautiful dish of glazed prawns. Ms. Swinton herself describes this scene as "prawnography" and that pun alone makes us fall in love with her. Anyway, Emma and Antonio don't actually start doing it until a little while later when she "accidentally" runs into him outside a bookstore in San Remo. You can see their first tryst in the clip above--Antonio undresses her, worships her as he should--and there's also a beautiful scene in a field during which you can see his beard mingle with her bush. Look for those moments at 1:09:54 and 1:15:17.

2. Female Perversions: Tilda plays Eve, a young but successful lawyer who is absurdly skilled--and competitive--in the arts of manipulation, seduction, sex, and style. She knows how to attract the judge's eye during a court case, she's embroiled in a relationship with an executive at her firm that involves nasty sex with the door open, she throws out lipstick when she sees another woman wearing the same shade, and she's a mess. Roger Ebert called "Female Perversions" "one of the most provocative films I've seen about the complications of being female in the modern world" (because obvi he knows all about that). It is, without a doubt, one of our favorite Tilda Swinton films, and it's based on a fascinating book by the same name written by feminist psychoanalyst/author Louise J. Kaplan. Anywho, Tilda and many of her co-stars get naked around 2:00, 26:00, 52:00, 53:00, 1:02:00, 1:25:00, 1:28:00, 1:29:00, and 1:33:00, so you'll have more than enough eye candy to enjoy whilst you ponder the threads of Kaplan's brilliance running through the film.
